Gavin talks about his feelings; expressing everything that’s going on without flat out saying it. Probably for the best though, considering his mom seems to remember the “Old Rain” (ie, Ryan). He’s pretty good at skirting around the truth actually…
Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.
again gavin proves to be the most interesting character in this thing.
Gavin is indeed a deep read of a character...
This is the page that made me confused about Rain and Fara's last names and I still haven't quite understood it. Can I get an explanation as to whose last name is whose?
Bryer is Fara's last name, and would be Rain's mother's maiden name. Flaherty is Rain's last name. Gavin uses the Rain's aunt's name here so as to avoid his mother cluing in to Rain's prior public identity. Since she and Gavin were good friends back in the day, there is a very real possibility that his mom could piece together the connection to Ryan Flaherty from Rain Flaherty (quite a bit later, Gavin's dad remembers Ryan's name, so why wouldn't his mom?). And I mean, that name similarity IS how Gavin figured it out himself.
Hence, the name change.
@LittleLynn84: So, when does Rain say her last name is Flaherty and when does she say it's Bryer?
Rain is established as Rain Flaherty right at the beginning.
Fara is a teacher, and thus is known by her students (and other teachers) as Ms. Bryer. It's first established here. But Gavin would know anyway, from knowing Rain back in the day.
