This is partly here to poke fun at myself for all of the kissing scenes that have been popping up lately. There is, of course, a more serious significance to it though.
Since the introduction of “RuIn” and the theme of “curing gay” has come up, there has been a great deal of concern voiced about what message I’m trying to convey with the comic's direction. There has been some misunderstanding, but I do want to make clear that I do not believe one can be “cured of homosexuality”, nor do I believe you can choose to magically stop being gay. As a transgirl and a lesbian (who has tried to stop being so in the distant past), I know full well how NOT a choice things like this are.
And that's just it. Sometimes, just like Maria here, we have to learn the hard way that we can’t we escape who we are.
Kinda feel bad for Gavin though. That might've been his first kiss, and she might barf... -_-
Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.
Also, if you enjoy the comic, please vote for "Rain" on TopWebComics!
Aww, poor Gavin xD
I think it's funny that the assumption that Rudy has been "cured" is kind of a huge slap in the face to bisexuals. I realize that was probably not people's intentions, but the leap of logic from "someone we know is gay is now dating a woman" to "HE'S STRAIGHT NOW" really comes off like that.
@HotelDon: Well, the people thinking this are mostly silly kids in a conservative, religious school. :P You'd expect them to have crazy and nonsensical attitudes about it. And Rain's friends are all confused by their own feelings, and, again, are just kids who are a long way away from making any sense at all of romance and sexual orientation, I guess...
... It would be nice to have an unambiguously bisexual character in the comic, but on the other hand, anyone bi going to this school would probably just stick to heterosexual romances just to avoid being bullied all the time, and so we'd never know. Heck, they themselves would probably never know, since they'd be under constant pressure to "be straight." I have a feeling one of the characters we've met will turn out to be bi after all, thought.
@HotelDon: Aunt Fara's an unambiguously bi character. However you're right that none of the students seem to be bi. I agree with the above post about why that probably is and also speculate that there will be a reveal later down the road :)
Sorry, I should have been more clear. I was referring to the reactions OUTSIDE the comic, not in the comic itself. The fact that people assumed the comic implied Rudy was being cured, as opposed to the comic implying Rudy is bi (or, if you want to be super technical about it, hetero-romantic, since it's implied part of his attraction to Rain is because he knows she's a boy underneath that skirt) was what I was referring to.
wheres the rest D:
I completely forgot Aunt Fara was bi. O_o
I guess I skip the comments far too often to see the "Rudy is cured!" stuff. :P It'd be surprising to see comments like that on a comic that you'd think would attract a pretty LGBT-friendly crowd...
Eww! Now Maria has cooties! XP
That's probably what would happen if I tried to kiss a boy XD Ew!
