I second guessed the dialogue of the second page a bit. On any given day, I would look at the page again and think, “Oh, that Rudy. What a card!” Then I’d look at it again the next day and think, “God, Rudy! Don’t be such a jerk!” I drew this page well over a month ago, so I’ve had a lot of back and forth with myself about it. I ultimately left it though. Although his comment COULD be interpreted as being really douchey, obviously Rain doesn’t think so. And given his delight with her response, it clearly was just meant to be Rudy being… Rudy.
Both pages portray an awkward overall exchange to be sure, but what important dialogue in life isn’t horribly awkward in some way? :)

NOOOOOOO! I reached the end of the archives! I am filled with supreme sadness...
This is probably the cutest page (double, but whatever) out of the entire comic to date. I fully agree with Rudy, he is awesome for handling this situation so well. It might take them a while to get back to normal as friends, but I'm glad that Rudy's going to be, well.. Rudy about the situation. :P
Yay! Rudy is great here.
These 2 pages remind me of my husband and I. When I think I'm weird or broken or whatever, he stands by me and let's me know he loves me for who I am, even if that's someone who's outside the definition of "normal." And he does his best to make me laugh, 'cause he hates to see me sad.
I get the feeling she's about to tell him about her crush on Ana, and that she's not actually attracted to him, but I could totally see the opposite happening too. Either way I think they're gonna be ok now, whether as friends or partners :)
That is one sharp gaydar. What tipped him off?
@LittleLynn84: I'm glad you left it. Not only is it Rudy being Rudy, but it gives them an out to still be friends in all of this, which is very important.
Well this does bring up a good point about some transpeople wanting to be straight to be more accepted. Im a pan romantic and that always gets people confused well except for my lgbtq club friends.
@renchikolul: ironically, I pretended to be lesbian when I first started social transition (I'm bi with a mild preference for guys), because I'd only ever previously been known to show interest in girls before transition, so I didn't wanna reinforce the gender == sexuality trope by dating guys. But I do know a lot of LGB+ trans people feel pressured to pretend to be straight, too
I feel like Rudy is unrealistically mature here. He was pretty shocked/hurt just two pages or so ago, and he's only what, 14?
Someone ten years older might be able to handle this conversation that well, maybe, but someone Rudy's age? Not a chance.
Whoa. Rudy is taller than I thought. Based on how his personality is and how short he always seemed to look, I always thought he was a younger kid (Maybe 2 or 3 years younger than Rain) and skipped a few grades. I somewhat imagined Rico from Hannah Montana... except less mean.
Actually, Rain's only a little over a year older than Rudy. They're two grades apart, but he turned 16 back in October, whereas she won't turn 18 until August. They're also roughly the same height, with Rudy being negligibly shorter than Rain. That still technically makes him the shortest male main character though. ^_^
Same old Rudy. Always the optimistic one.
