As with the last page, that’s probably not the nicest term Rudy could’ve used, but this IS still Rudy we’re talking about here. I would argue that it should be pretty obvious he meant no offense, and that it’s really pretty typical of him by this point.
And with that, I will just say this to make sure we’re all on the same page here: RuIn is done. Fortunately, it seems they will remain friends. They are not dating anymore though. This pairing has been met with MANY conflicting opinions from readers for the past year and a half since I put them together, but now that it's over, where do you stand? How do you feel? Could this have been saved? Should it have?
Thoughts, feelings, celebratory cheers, new ships, predictions, objections, and/or retroactive predictions that you saw this coming all along are ALL welcome.

I think it was a good call for rudy to break up with rain , they were going no where in the relationship , I am very happy that they will remain friends . maybe now we all will get to see rain date a girl :)
Okay, THIS is the cutest page(s) to date, hereby claiming the title held by the last one.
No, I doubt this relationship could have been saved. Whatever Rudy's feelings are, he's gay, and Rain seems to be a lesbian, soooooo... well, other people might have their own thoughts, but to me that just seems like a pair that isn't meant to be whatever the circumstances.
Also, Rudy couldn't have picked a better way to make Rain feel better about the way things ended than by asking her to be his fag hag.. it had me laughing at least. :P
I'm so glad they're finally broken up- for plot purposes, and my fan shipping of Rain and Gavin, Emily, or Ana XD
I doubt to a high extent that this relationship could have been saved- but I'm glad they decided to remain friends and be "GBFs".
I caught that little sting from Rudy for the past two pages. I'm kind of glad he's expressing how he's hurt, and giving Rain a piece of his mind in a more polite manner.
GAVIN, DO YOUR THANG, MAN. COME AWNNN
"Fag Hag" just came up in the dialog at "Misfile", and hardly anyone (besides me) had ever heard the term before.
Interestingly, my test audience was unfamiliar with the term. This was surprising to me because I felt like I've heard it so many times in my life.
But since posting this, I've only had one person ask for a definition yet. So on my end, so far so good. XD
Whoops! Good catch. I'll fix that when I get a chance.
And thanks for letting me know. In this case, I don't mind being corrected. I make typos, and I oft overlook them. So, it's actually very appreciated when people point these out to me. ^_^
@LittleLynn84: I have heard it before, I have heard it means a girl who is attracted to gay guys only
Oh? See, I've always understood it to be a title for a girl whose best friend is a gay guy.
It makes me a bit sad because they were such a cute couple...
But on the long run it might be the best for them. Love is complicated.
These pages make me a little sad. I had a sassy gay friend for 10 years. Tragically he passed away from pneumonia this year. He was my online friend who lived in Canada, and I hadn't heard from him in a while, so I hit up his facebook page and that's when I saw all the "We will miss you" messages. I messaged his mom, and found out what happened. I cried for like 3 days. Sorry, I know this really has nothing to do with these pages, but they just reminded me of him. As for Rain, speaking from personal experience, being someone's fag hag is one of the best things in the world.
PS, it's been a year and a half?! Really?!
As for the timing, I was surprised too. I had to look it up, but the page where they officially became a pair went up on March 13th, 2012. It's completely unintentional, but if this page were just a week later, it would have been exactly a year and a half to the day. Just a weird coincidence, really. O_O
Also, I just want to say I'm sincerely sorry for your loss. That's terrible. :(
Could it have been saved from a writer's point of view, with the facts that are now canon having previously been open to speculation and different decisions on your part? Well, Rain could have been bi+ rather than lesbian, or Rudy could have been an exception to her general orientation like she is for him, either of which would have allowed them to stay together. But from an in-universe perspective, in which (as we now know) she was only pretending to be interested in guys at all and Rudy *not* being an exception, it theoretically could have continued but it wouldn't have been healthy for either of them.
I think I see a Rain x Ana pairing on the horizon :3
It's been forever since we heard Rain's last name. If not for the character sheets, I might have forgotten. XD
Very cute comic, this one. I especially like Rain's facial expressions.
@LittleLynn84: Thank you hun. And how weird, my birthday is March 14!
The last frame is one of the best, most heartfelt drawings I've seen in a very long time.
I'm actually very happy for the two of them. It took strength for them to figure out what they were able to come to terms with about their relationship, and to understand that this is where it was headed. In doing so, they were able to make something good come out of something that could have been very bad.
I read the entire archive in a single day, and due to the timing, I am one of the luckiest readers to have this as the strip I caught up with everyone on.
Great work, and thank you for an entertaining comic.
My 2 yen,
@LilyFlareVII: mine is the 14th too
I like Rudy still being her friend so he stays around, but now that Rain's available, I'd really like to see Gavin risk everything and battle all his own misgivings and prejudices, and finally admit that he loves Rain the way other boys love other girls, and then see Rain do battle with her own internal demons as she slowly comes to the realization that she loves him! (What gives me hope is that nothing in the entire series contradicts the idea that she really always has loved him!)
That was the greatest thing ever.
@lauren: Woo hoo!
@LilyFlareVII: its weird having the same birthday as someone else isnt it?
I don't think their relationship could have gone beyond good friends. So it is best they found that out and moved on.
My ship rises back from the depths of the sea!
@Barnarnar: I could be reading this wrong, but I think the whole group except Rudy, including Gavin, have picked up on Rain's crush on Ana. So that seems less likely now than it might have a couple dozen strips ago
J--I've been reading about Rain's adventures for some time now, but this is the first time I've been absolutely compelled to comment. Brilliant, girl! Being an old queen (just turned 52 today, but in the words of Indiana Jones, "It ain't the years, honey, it's the mileage), I've heard the term "fag hag" more times than I can count, and it's always meant, in family jargon, as a term of endearment as far as I know. But on a more general note, anyone who knows anything about the GLBTQ community would agree, I think, that these characters and their stories are so deeply developed that they rival some of the best portrayals I've seen. Someone should scoop this up and run with it, publish it as a graphic novel, make a movie, turn it into a musical, IDK. Maybe that's not what you want, and I would certainly understand. But I could send the link to an editor of mine at Topside Press if you like. Look them up online and see what they are about. They published the very first ever anthology of fiction by trans* authors last year and won a Lambda for it. Anyway, either way, kudos, girl!
I have heard the term "fag hag" my entire life, by many many people. Very large gay community here. Here it means a woman who lusts over and enjoys looking at gay guys, and if they are fortunate are allowed to watch from time to time. They generally have gay guy friends who they go to the gay bars with and checkout all the guys and flirt a bit. I mean both sides flirt just for fun to tease and torment the fag hag. Also I've known some where the gay friend would do the odd grope to tease the fag hag. Of course nothing more ever comes of it accept for one frustrated but very happy fag hag.
Btw, it seems to be half an half, half of the gay community like them, and the other half do not like them at all and put them down.
I like this page. The art is cute and I wasn't really a fan of this pairing (though it was handled well).
So, they're mutual gay best friends now?
Maybe 'fag hag' (don't really like the term, but it is common) could be described as 'asexual but heteroromantic'. Likes to hang out with and even flirt with guys, but doesn't want a relationship. Gay men are a cool group to hang out with if you're like that. All the eye candy and flirting you want, but no chance of trying for anything more from either side.
That said, I still feel Rudy is being too mature for his age here. I mean, okay, characters have given lectures here before, but then it was at least somewhat believable.
But anyway, let's move on.
Yay Ruin is gone! Took them way too long > ~ <
Rudy works better as Rain's wingman than her lover. Good luck to both of them.
After reading this again, I kinda want to see Rain and Rudy as Queer/Quasi Platonic Partners XD
