And here, we start to get into Ana's heavy backst- BACK TO SMILEY! Man, she isn't kidding when she says she's not into the seriousness.
I want to stress that in the last two panels, Gavin is joking around. Ana just derailed the depressing stuff, so he's going with the flow. Not saying he wouldn't like it to be a date, but he's a smart guy and she made her stance kinda clear a couple pages ago. I don't necessarily want to spell things out like this, but after the "friendzone" comment he made last week, Gavin seems to be on thin ice with a lot of readers (and I understand why, but I didn't really anticipate it beforehand). I'm just trying to make sure there's no bad blood.
Finally, today's page was originally planned to be the second of a two-pager with the last. I hurt my wrist (somehow) last week though, so I split them to make sure I don't fall too behind while I recover. I'm already feeling much better so no worries. Next update: back to Rain and Kylie and Emily: the true stars of the chapter. ^_^
Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.
Also, I've said this before, but I'm trying to raise money for SRS, and I'm still struggling with it. If you can help, it would be most welcome. If not, don’t worry about it. I totally understand (you don't need to feel bad or apologize if you can’t).
It's interesting...Gavin really has a very innocent view of the world, and I feel like the story has a lot to do with him growing up. I think his question in the beginning panels really just shows how young and innocent he is. I at first wondered if his question was the result of a victim blaming society, but it's not. He looks concerned, not suspicious. He's just genuinely shocked and confused that someone as sweet as this girl would be harmed or taken advantage of. The evils of the world are that incomprehensible to him. Sadly, I think he's going to have to do some growing up soon, and it won't be pretty for him.
I actually think it's good of Gavin to make clear, in a joking but still honest manner, that he as well has a line between a date and hanging out with friends.
So he just made clear that he accepts Ana's wish to not have a date, even if he could also "bribing" her into it but I don't think that's his intention because I agree with LENN, he's just too naive for that.
I made the opposite experience often enough to appreciate what Gavin is doing, I told people we where not on a date, they insisted on paying for me and in the end, they where convinced that we had had a date, ignoring what I'd made clear!
I think of the two here gavin is obviously a nicer person. But also that gavin might not be the most experienced when it comes to the way the world works. Doesn't mean the way the world works. is a good thing just the way it is. being an adult. Sometimes means accepting that the world filled with evil
and it's accepted. especially in your leadership
@Lenn: I just hope he grows up in a good way... doesn't blame himself or feel depressed knowing he can't help others.
So, I came back after a long time without reading (school stuff took precedence), and saw your new profile photo, and just had to stop to say that as a cis girl, I hope I look something like you when I'm older.
