This was another kinda last minute page. Partly because I wanted an excuse to bring up a little dialogue on life post-RuIn. I always hate it when TV shows, movies, books, etc. feature a pair of characters who break up mid-story and it's just suddenly like that former relationship never even happened. It rubs me the wrong way, so I don't want to do that sort of thing. Hence, the plight of Rain, who is still new to the whole "dating-and-then-being-single-again" dynamic. They might still be friends, but that doesn't mean things go right back where they were before.

And out of curiosity, DO you have to bring a date? I know I brought a date to my prom, but I don't recall having to sign a form naming my date or anything (mind you, it was a long time ago). I feel like the whole date thing was just kinda between the two of us, really.

Also, I've said this before, but I'm trying to raise money for SRS, and I'm still struggling with it. If you can help, it would be most welcome. If not, don’t worry about it. I totally understand (you don't need to feel bad or apologize if you can’t).

@monie5251996: But where's the drama in that?

I'm still aboard the S.S. Kain, if for no other reason than its name. Also, Rain may or may not have a thing for blondes, and Ky's pretty awesome in general. I ship it, and it allows for my boy Gavin to get in on the romancin', too.

You didn't have to bring a date at my school. I know I went alone to prom my junior year. As long as you had a ticket, you could get in. The couple's tickets were cheaper, though, so even if you didn't have a date it was usually smart to go with a friend.

Although if that friend happened to be the same gender as you and the GSA president the chaperones would all assume it was a date and follow you around the whole night because mormons are psycho. Hypothetically, of course.

Let's see. I never went to the prom/ball/thingie at either of my high schools, but dates were optional at my second one although highly recommended. Basically you were supposed to have a date, but they'd still take your money and let you in if you didn't. Not so much at my sister's school...a very traditional Presbyterian girls college. You had to register your date in advance, picking from the guys from a specific all-boys school nearby and fill out the "I'm gay" form if you wanted a same-sex partner so the school could treat you appallingly the rest of the year. This did not go down well, to put it mildly. In the end my sister and everyone else who didn't like the form just ended up taking fake dates and ditching them ASAP so they could go pair up with their *real* partners instead.

What if...

What if Rain took a certain guy that Rudy has a crush on, and Rudy took that one chick with the fucked up eyes that Rain has a crush on, then they switched out dates?
On a side note, I don't think anyone would want to dance with or even around me, because since I do a certain dance style known as industrial, I'd probably end up accidentally knocking the shit out of my date. XD

@LittleLynn84: heh, "ruin", interesting name for the pairing. I'm guessing you were never a fan, huh? :P

With regards to the prom thing, I wouldn't know since as I've mentioned in these comments before we don't have the same prom conventions here and I didn't go to my end of school party anyway, but if you DO have to bring a date then that would suck for a whole bunch of other oppressed groups who also tend to get shat on in dating, as well as LGBTQ+ people

@Allie:

Actually, the ship was always called RuIn (RUdy + raIN).

If I remember correctly, the ship name was actually originally coined by a reader and fan of the pairing. I was just amused by it and ran with it. It kinda had that foreshadowy charm to it anyway.
