I'm finding it hard to write anything else here without saying more than I should. So I'm leaving the commentary to you. Thoughts on what Rain says? On how Rudy reacts to it? On whether it fits Drew's situation?
And most importantly, thoughts on the fact that Rain just said any of that at all?
Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.
In case you hadn't gotten the memo yet, Rain - Volume 2 is FINALLY available for purchase! It covers Chapters 7 through 14 (plus an exclusive bonus chapter), and features much higher quality (no more fuzzy text). So check it out if you can. ^_^
Rain is definitely getting more confident, which is great. Rudy, on the other hand, is starting to lose it. To a certain extent, I've been in Rudy's position. Some (or all) of your friends have serious issues that need working out, and they look to you to be that happy-go-lucky sort of person. So, you play that role, which is fine for awhile, until you hit a point where you start to have issues of your own. Then, you lie and try to hide your emotions, which is what he did at the end of ch 16. Could be wrong, but my guess is that Rudy just hit his breaking point. I'm anxious to see what sort of state he's in when Rain catches up with him.
Id be surprised if Rudy wasn't at his breaking point just look at his life. he come out before his sister and got shit for it at home and at school. His sister come out and isn't as builed and even has a girlfriend that she loves. It was so much easier for her he might feel betrayed or hurt like "why was it just me?" Rain is also not having a hard time after the break up but he is so that's just my conclusion he's about had it.
Dangit Drew, ask Rudy out already! D:
Oh man...that final panel in the upper section. It's like you are teasing me for trying to ship Gavin and Rain. :D
I understand what you are saying, but at the same time...it sort of says there is still hope for the two of them much, much further in the future once Rain gets herself some therapy time and can focus on a serious relationship. A very slim hope, perhaps, but it's there.
More on topic, I think Renchikolul is spot on about Rudy, it makes sense. Hopefully there will be a guy that Rudy will get together with soon, so he is just as happy as his sister is. The two of them need to be united so that they can confront their parents and show that their lives are better now (out of the closet) and they don't need fixing.
In addition to what's already said about Rudy being at his breaking point because he's always supposed to be the happy upbeat one, I think it's worth mentioning that as much as it wasn't Rain's intention to hurt him with what she said, that HAD to hurt like hell. The one girl he's ever been into says that she was probably never that into him in the first place? Yeah. Talk about rubbing salt into a wound that never healed. I probably would've walked off too. Like I said, I know it wasn't Rain's intention- she was just trying to give Drew some advice and let him know he wasn't alone- but it was kind of a jerk thing to say in front of Rudy.
What Rain describes is me in a nutshell - never looking at girls because boys don't and then once I did... finding I prefer them. I still like girls, but I had wondered why genuine interest was rarer for me than for most. Now I know. And it is certainly a shock at first, but then makes all the sense when I sat down and thought about it.
Rain's exactly right of course, and I think it shows how much Rudy is still hung up on Rain that he didn't give this speech himself. He's been shown to do that sort of thing before, and it's kinda uncharacteristic for him to be so dismissive.
And I love Rain's pigtails in that last panel. Wish I could pull off that look. How does she even make the elastic not slide right out?
