Heavy page with a little bit of relief at the end from a patient, optimistic Chanel. I'm not really sure what else to add here.
But sorry for the bummer pages recently.
Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.
Don't forget, Rain - Volume 1 and 2 are available for purchase. ^_^
Also, I've said this before, but I'm trying to raise money for SRS, and I'm still struggling with it. If you can help, it would be most welcome. If not, don’t worry about it. I totally understand (you don't need to feel bad or apologize if you can’t).
I've always related to Maria's struggles through this comic, but this page made me cry.
Because my parents, did actually try to send to a gay camp. I was lucky and managed to move out with a group of friends before they got the chance to send me away. But I can't help but wonder how many kids are out there today who are taught that they need to be "cured". Especially since some of those camps are quite violent. I can't help but wonder how many of them die each day...
Sorry for the little depressing story there, it's just... Thank you for making these comics. I hope they open people's eyes to all the suffering within the LGBTQ community.
It's funny you mention the "camps"... Showtime has a documentary on one of them premiering tomorrow night called "Kidnapped For Christ". It's some scary stuff, judging by the trailer.
Anyway, this page isn't quite what I was expecting. I suppose on some level I was rooting for a sleepover, but then again the chapter isn't over yet...
@phoebeburgh: I looked up that movie just now and.. ugh... just the mere thought of what they do in those camps... It makes me sick to know we live in a world where torture is justified by religion to try to make it so no one is different from anyone else. It's disgusting.
I like this, actually, For the most part, their parents homophobia is played for laughs, but it's nice to remind us sometimes just how hard it is to be with parents like that. Makes me depressed for Maria though.
@Rose: Offers hugs because you could probably use them.
Sleep over! Sleep over! Sleep over! Sleep over!
To keep this story from going sour, I propose a solution to their dilemma!
What if Chanel pretends to be Rudy's girlfriend, and Maria pretends to be single? That way Chanel can visit Maria's house and her parents will not only be okay with it, they'll be fooled into thinking their children have been "cured" and feel no need to send them to crazy-camp! :D
@Dakky: It would work, but I don't think Maria would be willing to do that, and Rudy wouldn't want to pretend to be straight again.
If the movies Jesus Camp has taught me something is that bigots get too much power with Christian camps. Maria and Chanel deserve to be happy and free!
