Meanwhile, the other non-sleeping people in this apartment also stay up late chatting with each other. It's not like they're all going to need that energy to walk around a crowded convention tomorrow or anything. Meh, it's plot. I'm sure they'll be fine. ;P
Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.
Aiken is really growing on me, I never thought he would. It seems like he is really trying despite his original bad reaction.
There's something to be said about how Aiken's been maturing since his introduction. I'm really hoping Kellen warms up to it, as well.
Anxiety from coming out issues? Yeah... they're all awake and could stay that way for 3 weeks until they break down in depression and return to semi-normal sleeping habits.....
Not that I'm speaking from experience or anything (but that's what happened to me my first day out to 3 people ;))
With so many people the issue is just ignorance. I'm so happy Aiken is warming up to the whole idea and is even actually doing his own research now.
It's something I've experienced myself actually. My supervisor at my last job was homophobic and even told me he flat out hasn't talked to his cousin in 20 years because his cousin is gay. My supervisor knew me for about a year before he found out that I had a boyfriend (which, doesn't actually make me gay but since I was still presenting as male it appeared that way to him). He came to realize I was a normal person and nothing was any different about me once he had that knowledge. I even eventually came out as trans to him. But, because of me, he decided to speak to his cousin for the first time in 20 years. That was pretty awesome.
@Danielle: Now THAT is amazing
@Danielle: That's an amazing story.
Could she step outside and get hit by a honkin' big chunk of blue ice?
I guess I can't be too surprised.
Aiken already went through his phase of needing to be hit by a bus when he found out. It got so bad he was kicked out by their aunt and didn't see Rain for a long while. Didn't even talk.
Now it's Kellan's turn. Will she get better like Aiken eventually did? Be interesting to see.
I love the character progression. Aiken is ignorant at first, and his reaction back then was understandable. Not something that would be easily forgiven, but understandable. And with time, he gets to think about things, dealing with them rationally instead of knee-jerk reactions. And that opens a whole lot more opportunity for growth.
If I was Aiken, I'd have replied "Yeah, the cure's exactly what she's doing." :B
@Nemo: "Yes. It's called transition."
I go to a forum where I constantly have to point that out. Like, people constantly ragging that trans people "need therapy, not coddling".
@Grenartia: They do realize that we're kind of required to go to therapy anyway, right?
They do now. The ones who listened, at least.
He might not have gotten to that yet.
I hope Kellen turns around soon. In the meantime, she makes me wish someone would sit on her face.
Surely, you forgot an "h" in the word "sit".
Heehee. Kellen slipped up - she's starting to think of Rain as a girl, much as she doesn't want to.
Interesting, I thought it was a manner of speech, the "her" was referring to Emily then stressing Emily (her) was HIS (Rain) friend
I can't believe Aiken's become the sympathetic one...
Well, Aiken eventually developed, I'm sure Kellen will too.
I AM LITERALLY GOING TO STAB YOU KELLEN. Unless of course, you die in a hole first, which would be just as good.
I'm actually confident and hopeful Kellen can be redeemed.
@Grenartia: Same, I'm just really angry right now at her. stabby angry.
If she doesn't come around, she needs to have her intestines extracted with the rustiest cactus.
@Grenartia: Hello, I'm from the future. Go get your cactus.
Can i punch Kellen in the face?
Hi my name is Ruby (not influenced by Rudy's female alter-ego but I did laugh when I saw the connection... Anyway Ruby is my name (though some people still don't understand and call me Rhys -_-)
I just thought I'd throw in something based on what happened after I came out making my family uncomfortable... my brother was still warming up to the fact when we were having a fight, so I slapped him and he said "you hit like a girl!... Ruby." since then he has really started understanding more (even calling me Ruby in private conversations)
So yeah I just thought that would be a cute idea for the story-line ^^
And there's the first crack in Kellen's armor of abrasiveness. There may be hope for her yet.
And Aiken is definitely way ahead of her. Yay for family who turn around :)
While I'm relieved that Aiken is growing up out of his bigoted anti-trans phase, I'm very disappointed in Kellen.
