I really probably could have started the chapter AT the con, and not spent more time in the period before they get there. I was loving a lot of the humor here though, and felt that might be appreciated after the way the last chapter ended.
Plus, I really like seeing Rain's progression as she develops into a stronger person.
Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.
If you think about it, Kellen is getting better. She acknowledged Rain as a girl just then, albeit in a rude way.
@Terastrasza: I agree. Her comment there tells me two things:
1) She accepted (however unconsciously it may be) that her 'brother' is now her 'sister'.
2) That they are still siblings, because only siblings can be mean to each other.
Now she just needs to outright say that to Rain.
@Terastrasza: Sorry, off-topic, but I had to do a double-take when I saw your name. Never met anyone with such a similar name before, so I was a little confused. :P
On-topic, it probably helps that everyone else is being so supportive. It's harder to maintain ignorance in the face of that.
@Terrastrasza @Terrastrasza : Any chance you guys play wow?
@KittyK: Hehe, someone gets the reference. I don't play at the moment, but yeah I used to. Started way back in vanilla actually. PM me if you'd like, don't want to derail the comments section too badly. ^_^;
@KittyK: Yes I am currently playing at the moment. Though I started playing WoW retail since vanilla. If you'd like to know more pm me if you want :D
You have to admit, that was a really clever line at the end. Although she probably didn't mean it in a playful manner and was rather rude about it, so do I give props to Kallen or not? Oh, I know! That was a really clever line at the end, Lynn :p
Rude or otherwise, that was funny
That really does sound more like 'rude ornery sibling' than anything else. Progress?
Kellen got some of her karma balanced methinks via how Rain got her out of bed
There's no obvious reason why Rain needed to wake Kellen up. They could have gone to the convention without her. Unless there's only one car?
(There was one three-day science fiction convention that my wife went to, but I had a severe head cold so I spent almost the entire time asleep in the hotel room.)
But... this is funnier. And it also hints that maybe Kellen has come around a tiny bit.
@Don Edwards: I think you've forgotten the whole point in this is Rain trying to reconnect with her siblings :P she might be more likely to enjoy the con without her, and less likely for it to be a disaster that makes her associate anime - ie, her passion - with trauma, but she's clearly not at giving-up point
A page to make us smile. :)
Hey, Kellen got something right for once, in a way, kind of sort of. Maybe that'll lead to some understanding.
I love how Aiken is making pancakes meaning he's getting along with Emily, especially after how pissed Kellen was at her :)
Okay, that decides it. Pancakes for dinner :P
Cute that Kellen's calling Rain mom there ^_^
That last remark about balls is kinda bleh. I mean 'why do people call it balls and imply that women can't be assertive' bleh, not 'bad writing' bleh.
Still, it does show that Kellen's starting to accept the fact that Rain is Rain and not Ryan. She still doesn't like it I think, but at least she understands it's a fact.
I soo love Rain!
I've been looking forward to this moment since her brother was introduced.
Keep up the amazing work.
What if the creator of Kaminari turns out to be a transphobe? ...Nah, fate would never do something that bad to Rain....would it?
@X12: That's actually something that could very well happen, especially because it'd be interesting to see how Rain deals with what happened.
@Drizzle Flaherty: Even worse it could turn out she is a TERF (Trans Exclusionary Radical "Feminist"), aka a cis-woman who hates trans-women just because they werent born with a vagina. I say it would be worse because feminist are suppose to be for equality, and suppose to support all women....arent they?
I agree with Kellen here; the sun is a truly horrid, evil thing, I don't have to wake up in the AM, and my precious blankets will protect me.
I absolutely love the faces in this page. Every single one, with perhaps the exception of Rain and Emily's in the last panel, looked amazing. And their faces in the last panel weren't bad either. I can't even choose a favorite, though Rain's face in the third panel is close!
As someone with a not-entirely-dissimilar opinion of waking up, I have to commend Kellen for her coherence in that state. o.O
Hrm. Why does Rain have more 'balls' as a girl than a boy? In my experience, girls have to have a spine. Trans girls have to reinforce it with mithril or adamantium. Might also have something to do with being more comfortable with herself, too. ;3
"It's almost noon"? "Couldn't be bothered to wake up before mid day"? Shouldn't you generally get out of bed very early if you're going to a convention? I have never been to a convention myself, but the stories I've heard made me think you need to be really early.
That being said, the stories I've heard usually come from people who have stands on such events and need to get there before the crowd does :p
She just called you a girl (without even thinking about it). I thought this was a good sign
