Some Rain/Emily cuteness to take things down a notch.

Rain's probably only able to smile at all right now because Emily's there for her. It'd be a looooong wait for Fara to get there if she didn't bring her best friend along on this trip.

And yes, it'll be Emily that fixes Rain's hair. A lot of people have been mentioning salons, but I don't think for a moment that Rain would have the confidence to sit in front of a complete stranger like this to have it fixed up. I've always had that kind of anxiety myself, actually. I haven't had my hair professionally cut in over eleven years. My friends or my wife (none of them trained) have been doing my hair through that time. Saves me a lot of money and a lot of trouble failing to articulate what I want. ^_^

Agreed.

@00Stevo: That one, and the second-to-last one too. Rain in particular is ridiculously adorable.

Fara: "Of course you can be feminine and hot with short hair. And you better not try to tell ME different."

I'd love to see how Aiken responds to this mess. It'd be nice if he says something like "Call me after Rain forgives you." But he'll probably try for more of a middle ground, and I can't fault him for that either.

@Don Edwards: I'm kinda hoping for a "I only have one sister and shes called Rain" response, although it might be a bit too much of a 180 im pretty sure hes not gonna be happy with it

Oh my dear Rain, you just had to say those words. Now things have to get worse because that's what happens when you tempt fate.

@LittleLynn84: Why do I feel like Rain's hair is fine like it is? To me, at least, if Rain's trying to have a more feminine hairstyle she already has it (despite the fact it was done unprofessionally by a probably desperate person). But it could definitely use some maitntnence(cannot spell that word correctly.)

@haxorus29: One thing that helps is that Kellen doesn't seem to have done much to the front. She was trying to get it done as fast as possible and probably didn't want to get too close in case Rain moved in her sleep, so she didn't cut it as short as she could have.

nuclear deterrent

reply

Emily here is a nuclear deterrent of a melt down. Rain and Kellen probably would've gone postal on each other. The wasn't for her. As for Kellen I'm not sure she sees the scope of things she still views. Rain like she a child. In everything she does is just a a child misbehaving. It was easy solution here to make Kellen see what you did was wrong, simply do the exact same thing to her and stating exact same thing. Her brother and her aunt rain and Emily cut Kellen hair. I guarantee once she gets over that shock she will realize how she messed up. Or after the family kicked her face, she might ask ring to cut her hair the same way the sort of peace offering

I know its not that type of comic

reply

First off thank you for the wonderful comic, second I am glad Rain's story has gone here, I love the light fun and often silly stuff but just would not feel right if she was not faced with troubles.

My own transision has been terrifyingly lacking in people rejecting me, so much so that I keep waiting for kharma to hit me :-)

Now I Know its not that type of comic but I kinda hope Fara slaps Kellen one of those slaps that leaves a hand print the next day and makes chewing difficult for a while.

to do or not to do

reply

@LittleLynn84: when it comes to hair,to each their own. i've cut my own,my niece has cut it,and i've gone to the beauty parlor.
~like rain i put in some preparation before i go anywhere. i only had my gender questioned once but as she(the stylist) told me people are more concerned with whether or not you are going to pay for the services.
~in my case i think a pro does a better job than i or my niece can do and have found it so relaxing that i've almost gone to sleep in the chair.

I'm glad Emily's gonna fix Rain's hair. For more reasons than one, Kellen should NEVER be trusted with scissors again.

I for one think that Rain is cuter with short hair. I think Rain might be equating long hair with femininity and short hair with masculinity. It's internalized gender expectations. I myself am still dealing with unlearning this crap 4 years into my transition.

On a side note, if Rain and Emily don't get together, I'll be really disappointed. :P

love this.

reply

I absolutely love how supportive Emily is.

xD Rain should totally change her last name so to disown Kellen completely. ^-^ Then she could truely have Emily as her ONLY sister. Though that probably be over-doing things.

Also Rain's face in the last panel made snicker alittle.

A thought occurs...

reply

She admits to one boy that she might be a lesbian and comes back to school with an unexplained haircut and a close relationship with known lesbians. As a lesbian myself, I can see this taking an annoying and distressing turn when thrown into a close-minded and dramatic teenager filled environment, especially considering how much boys (and girls) hate it when a girl they had a crush on turns out to have no interest in them.
