Hmm... still oddly quiet on the Kellen front...
Also, the fourth panel makes me laugh. Unlike some dream episodes/chapters in many other stories, I don't want it to have "not mattered". So Rain may still dwell on it from time to time. ^_^
Anyway, getting to the most important point, considering what happened with her hair and her sister, it's easy to first think Rain made a poor decision in visiting this weekend. But on the other hand, she did get to talk with her brother, and we see a monumental improvement in their relationship between the Christmas arc and now. This might not have happened - at least, not any time soon - if she hadn't made this trip. And as awkward as this might still be for them, one can plainly see Rain is happy to have her big brother back, and Aiken is happy to have his little sister at all. Does that make the trip worth it? Well, I'd be interested to know what you think.

D'awe, good guy Aiken. <3
As horrible as what Kellen did, and as reasonable as Rain's feeling of malaise is, hair will grow back, but if she hadn't visited them, she might not have connected with Aiken in the way she wanted to. So while she lost a sister, and her dignity has taken a hit, she did get her brother back, and I think that, in time, she'll probably decide that the weekend was worth it for that reason.
Kellen is still a horrible, horrible person though, and personally I hope that she loses both Rain and Aiken over this. Granted, Rain might decide to look past it in the future if Kellen comes back, apologizes, and wants to be a part of her *sister's* life, but she'll never deserve to be forgiven entirely.
@Hannah: I'm not sure there's any helping Kellen. Let's look back at how Aiken first reacted. Sure, it was pretty bad, but he kind of tried to stay calm for a few days, and never even thought of laying a hand on Rain.
Plus, a lot of his negativity can be attributed not to transphobia, but to what happened with Jessica. Not that his reaction there was any better, but I do get why he'd react badly to learning that his girlfriend was hiding a big secret from him that she was planning on never telling him.
So yeah, it was pretty bad, but it did show hints of possible improvement once he'd calmed down. Meanwhile, Kellen has just been aggressively oblivious and in denial. Some people just don't want to learn.
I'm glad that their work things out. It's good to see Aiken try hard
I wonder how hard Fara is hitting Kellen right now...
Also, I wish I could order some merch without my family knowing, because they insist on going through my mail while I'm at work or school.
@Grenartia: Sounds like you need a PO box - or a Mailboxes Inc type drop.
Sounds more expensive than its worth. I don't get packages, and even if the problem were gone, I wouldn't have the money to get them very often, and as for regular mail, since I live with them, they'd notice the lack of mail addressed to me, and start pestering me about it.
@Grenartia: It may be that, but sometimes a little privacy and safety where we're concerned is worth a hell of a lot more than you think. Just saying.
I mean, I get that. But there's few aspects of my finances that /don't/ get put under their microscope.
And its not like I can go move back in with my mom. At least, not without dropping out of college.
@Grenartia: Wow, your family are jerks. Do they have any reason to suspect you of any wrongdoing, or do they simply have no respect for privacy?
I'm pretty sure its something to do with living under their roof with free rent, utilities, and food. I mean, yeah, that's great, but I can't be myself.
@Grenartia: That's no excuse. That's like saying the government has a right to read all your emails because you live in their country.
... well, they do, but I've yet to meet anyone who agrees with that.
I'm just saying what their response would be.
@Grenartia: got any friends willing to get stuff delivered to their name&address for you?
Alternatively, got any friends you can tell your parents you've ordered a birthday gift for? This would particularly work if there's something you'd like to get for them as well as for you. Either way, telling the parents "hey, I ordered a gift for so-and-so, can you keep an eye out for it for me?" might work.
If it's just the books then it's unlikely your parents will notice much more than "you got a comic book". It's got a lot of significance for you, but practically none for them.
@laria: Even better, send it to a friend saying its a present for your parents, that way they don't know what it is and they won't mention it. Win-Win...
@laria: Not so much my parents as my grandparents.
Also, no friends, and they definitely don't want me spending any money on friends. Remember, its not just packages, its my bank statements, too. Its kind of like living with IRS auditors.
I think the trip was worth it. Not just because her relationship with Aiken as improved, but because she knows where to stand with Kellen now. No "what ifs", no wondering if she'll get around. In a way, that's closure even though it sucks.
While part of it went very, very poorly, I'd be optimistic that it was a net gain.
Kellen may well be a lost cause now, but it wasn't like she was terribly involved in Rain's life before.
The sweetness of this last scene leaves me to believe that Rain feels like she still has family who care for her. Awkwardness aside, Aiken seems like a real brother again, and maybe someone who could be relied on in the future.
I'm sure she wishes the price hadn't been so high, but when she starts getting compliments on her adorable new haircut she'll probably feel it was worthwhile.
Aaawww this makes me so frigging happy!! \(^-^)/
I am happy to see he is open to this more, gives hope that he might yet be able to mend the other two hearts he broke, Jessica's and his own.
So, are we just ignoring Kellen now? I mean, this is a pretty big thing to have happened to Rain and if she goes home and Kellen isn't seen and/or talked to again (In a much more closure-like way) in the next few pages, it'll feel kinda like a bummer. I mean, come on. The last few pages has had nothing of Kellen aside from being mentioned a few times. I think at least Fara would talk to Kellen. It's not like Fara at all for someone to hurt Rain like that and not get at LEAST a verbal thrashing from Fara, even if someone else already gave them one.
Also, I'm sorry if this is overly critical or sounds like I'm attacking you or anything. I just... Ugh. I need closure on this. I wanna see Kellen at least get SOME taste of her own medicine. It'd just be very underwhelming if Rain, Emily and Fara just left quietly. A huge event like that and absolutely nothing but a "Get out of my life" from Rain? I'll admit her speech to Kellen was amazingly brave of Rain, but... It was still a little lacking compared to everything else said and done. I mean, this is clearly a build up to some kind of confrontation.
I do like, however, that at least Aiken came around.
I love happy cries like the one this comic gave me.
I'm glad to see Aiken and Rain getting along again. As for Kellen, we do need to know how Fara and Aiken respond to her and I'm sure Jocelyn has something planed for that. Just hope it comes this chapter.
@Laurie_A: Agreed. It'd be a total bummer to not see some sort of confrontation with Aiken and Fara. It would go completely against their characters to not speak their mind and confront anyone that hurts Rain... Or, at least, so is the case with Fara. We still have to see with Aiken, but, with the way things are turning out, I'd like to imagine that's how Aiken is as well.
@TallMist: Fara did say something to Aiken about his improvment in http://rainlgbt.smackjeeves.com/comics/2166061/understanding/
@Laurie_A: Oh, I know that. I didn't mean Fara confronting Aiken. I meant Fara confronting Kellen. Even if she said she didn't wanna look at her, it'd still be kinda out of character for Fara (and, somewhat, Aiken) to not confront Kellen and it'd be so underwhelming if not even Fara tries.
@TallMist: True, we do need to see that
Its great they like each other now ^.^
I'm glad this is a thing :) also lol @ Aiken's expression when she mentioned the dream
fara told vincent on way over that she wanted to vet her feelings about kellen before they picked up rain because she(fara) in her current state ofmind felt like killing kellen.
fara realizes she needs to cool down before she says anything.
@cathyfan: She still needs to have words with Kellen before they leave.
I would say seeing Aiken and fixing her relationship with him made the visit worth it. However, the comicbook style makes it hard to tell how much the haircut affects Rain's ability to pass. Speaking as a transboy, I pass very well with short hair, even pre-T, but not at all with long hair.
Unrelated to the comic, is there any sort of tentative release date for Magical? I binged through all the teaser material and am now very hyped for it ^-^
@Ari: LITERALLY SAME! At first I thought Magical was just meh but then I read the backstories for the characters and am totally excited... I hope Jocelyn works on Magical because it's a REALLY cool story with tons of potential. Every story Jocelyn does is great...
I still believe the trip would have been much better if it was just one day. Regardless, I'm currently just screaming "hug eachother!" to these two siblings.
THANK YOU AIKEN. *Pulls Kellen over
"LOOK DO YOU SEE WHAT THIS MAN IS DOING???? HE IS WHAT A CERTAIN
OLDER SIBLING SHOULD BE TRYING TO DO AS WELL" AGAIN OMG THANK YOU AIKEN FOR TRYING FOR YOUR SIS YOU'RE LIKE THE BEST NOW.
