I really kinda love this scene. Something about two separate antagonists talking to each other (unaware that they know each other) that's just strangely tense, even though they're actually having a rather civil discussion so far (well, apart from the "greeting"). But it can't last, right? I mean, what's going to happen if Chase names himself?
And then there's the fact that Chase sounds legitimately concerned about Emily's pregnancy? But is it concern for her and the baby, or concern for himself?
As an aside, do keep in mind that the phone is NOT on speaker. In other words, Aiken can only hear Kellen's side of the conversation. He has no idea who's on the other line or what they're saying. He probably wasn't expecting familiarity though.

Haha, just as I suspected.
@LittleLynn84: so with her own earpiece in kellen can hear chase's voice from emily's phone and chase's voice is so loud kellen's reflex is to hold the phone away from her ear rather than pull out the earpiece? i'm a little confused.
Emily's phone would not be linked to Kellen's earpiece, which is probably why Kellen initially held it up to her ear.
On the other hand, it is actually possible to turn a cell phone OFF. So Kellen was a bit of an idiot there.
(Of course, if she had just turned it off, that wouldn't have done anything useful for the story. So Lynn would have had to do something else with the page, and find another way to set up whatever this page will eventually lead to.)
@Don Edwards: thanks for clearing up the thing about the phone. i was having a gray-haired brunette moment.
Sometimes it's hard to figure out how to turn a cell phone (esp. smart phones) on or off.
@cathyfan: maybe her Iphone's lock button is broken, and Kellen's an android user so she doesn't know how to use assistivetouch. That's how I would explain it at least.
As far as reasons to answer the phone go, Kellen actually had a fairly respectable one.
Still not the best thing to do, but not nearly as bad a reason as it could have been.
Maybe it's just because of who I've lived with, but this kind of thing is EXACTLY why I'm horrified at the prospect of anyone else getting a hold of my phone. The mere idea of other people prying into my private life without permission... *shudder*
Where does Kellen know Chase from? I don't remember? :(
This is going way back, but Chase and Kellen were once engaged. In fairness, we never saw it; it was just mentioned in passing.
@Guest: They used to be engaged.
??? honestly, so many of the readers of this comic miss so many details.... like how do you follow the plot at all? i don't understand.
anyway, kellen deserves to be sharted on, but i dont think chase will reveal himself. i dont care for him. he looks kinda bald in this page.
All you need to do is periodically reread the comic. Then, you'll find everything you missed, and if not, this is an enjoyable comic to reread anyway.
So... This is like watching the S*** hit the fan, but as done by Gavin Free for the Slow-Mo Guys.
Beautiful destruction is imminent!
