Gavin does seem to be pretty preoccupied. Does that mean he hasn't acknowledged Rain simply because something else (potentially more pressing?) is going on in his life? And if so, what could that possibly be? Who is he even talking to? I mean, if you go back to the first few chapters, Gavin and Rain had a rocky start. He's been a pretty loyal friend to her since then though. You'd think he could spare ten seconds of his time encouraging a dear friend, right?
But then, what if he IS actively avoiding Rain? Is that a possibility? Is there any reason why he would do that? Just what is going through that boy's head right now?
At least the other three are supportive though, right? That counts for something. It's three more supporters than Rain probably thought she'd have.

It's obviously Ana-related, but the question is how.
The only thing I can think about is it being a situation of Ana working up the courage to tell Gavin something, and after doing so, Gavin telling her that's more than okay, and he's waiting on a positive response to let him know he didn't mess his response up.
Or something akin to that.
I think Gavin has Ana on his mind and is blocking the world out unintentionally, not meaning to but maybe coming off a bit rude. I love this comic and I do like Rain's new look and I can understand why she is a bit worried about people connecting dots. I love how she is listening to her friends though, friends are the key to keeping yourself on the right path and in the right mind.
Well, Gavin's been texting since before Emily told them the news (It's subtle, but he's holding his phone in the first panel of "Cryptic"). So he was already in full support-Ana mode before he heard about Rain's hair, and it probably gave him some tunnel vision.
Especially as he's not an idiot. Ana's dropped enough hints that he probably suspects that she has a gender-related secret, and considering that he kind of screwed up Rain's reveal, it'll be extra important to him that he gets this one right.
So it probably just hasn't occurred to him how important his support is to Rain right now.
Given that Ana's having a major surgery, it makes sense that she'd be pre-occupying Gavin quite a lot even being vauge. Additionally, in all fairness, it would be pretty hard for me to pull away from the attention of a cute girl who potentially liked me in favor of one who I have no chance with.
Wow. This is a bit more... heavy... than I thought it'd be.
Gavin seems very attached to Ana, which I worry is an infatuation and once he finds out about her, he'll treat her like he did Rain. You know, the whole "I'm not into trans girls, I'm not GAY" kind of thing. However, it seems like a lot of the friction between Gavin and Rain is linked to her being from his past. He knew Rain as male before, so it's clouding his perspective of her. Ana, however, has always seemed female to him.
I'm looking forward to both how Gavin will take the news about her and what Ana will think when she finds out about Rain and vice versa. I'd expect that Ana may soon be one of the most important characters in this comic. Rain is alone at school. There aren't others like her. Ana may prove to be a huge source of support for her. On the flipside, Ana might want to move past her trans identity/community and rebuff Rain's friendship.
So many possibilities!
EDIT: Gavin doesn't care about Rain's hair. Not when Ana is at the forefront of his mind.
My (unoriginal) guess is that Gavvy boy is just preoccupied with Ana related stuff. I'm certain that he'd be fully supportive of Rain, even if the shorter style gives him a bit of a kick. It's just that, to quote Cinema Sins, the power of boners is stronger, hehe.
