So, for the first page, there's not a lot to it. I'm hoping it's not too subtle, but when Rain asks what she wants to look up, Emily puts her hand on her belly to indicate it's something pertaining to her pregnancy without saying so out loud. If that was obvious though, just ignore this paragraph. ^^;
What about it though? What specifically is she looking up, I wonder.
As for the second page: in case anyone forgot from Chapter 2 (I wouldn't blame anyone as that was a long time ago), Rain doesn't use the locker room to change for gym. She uses the gym teacher's office. Hence why Rain is rummaging through her bag in Mrs. Parker's office.
Beyond that, we get some more Debbie. She's hurt, confused, incredibly bitter, and perhaps a bit irrational due to the direction her friendship with Emily is going. This leads to her confronting Rain. None of this is technically new information to her though since Emily already told her that she ignorantly hated her at first and about the persona she fronts versus the person she really is. What Rain did not anticipate was to be blamed for everything going on. She's taken so off-guard by Debbie that she ends up not saying a word.
Mrs. Parker comes in and scolds them both for being in her office (thereby unwittingly breaking this conversation up). Debbie's probably not done with Rain though. But how much of a threat is she, really? What is Debbie actually capable of?

That question at the end of your author's comment is making me theorize that Debby is going to put together Rain is trans and then use that to threaten and/or blackmail her.
I honestly don't think Debbie has the ability to reach that conclusion. Even Emily only barely was able to come to it.
And, as far as I know, Debbie hasn't had any of the signals Emily had, and even if she did, its not like she has the knowledge to come close to putting 2+2 together.
Really, the only two people in this entire comic so far who have been able to figure out that Rain is trans, on their own, are...Emily and Rain (unless you count Rudy on the first day). And even Emily was uncertain until Rain told her.
This is out of the blue, but are the main characters (Rain, Maria, Rudy, Gavin etc.) religious themselves?
Considering they go to religious school, it'll probably sound odd that I never actually put much thought into how religious anyone is. It's not really a requirement of Catholic school though. Incidentally, neither is being Catholic (or perhaps that was just my school; strict as it was, they really uncharacteristically lax about that).
Getting back to the point though. Many of the kids aren't even in that school for religious reasons. So it's possible they'd all call themselves Catholic (or at least Christian) if asked what their faith is, but they might not necessarily be that devout or actively practicing. Maria, Rudy, and Chanel are the only ones we've seen in mass before though, so it's possible they might be the more religious ones of the group.
@LittleLynn84: I wouldn't call Maria, Rudy and Chanel religious. They did look like they were very unhappy to be there. Granted, you know more about your characters than I do, but just going off what we've seen.
Hey, you're much better at communicating information subtly than you seem to think you are! Stuff like Emily putting her hand on her belly and, a few chapters ago, the conversation about donating Rain's hair suggesting her mom died of cancer, are things that most readers will pick up on.
Heh. Good to know. ^_^
I only point it out because there have been a few times when I thought I included something that was totally obvious and no one picked up on it. Other times, I've had readers pick up on the subtlest of details that I really didn't expect/want people to get yet. XD
So, in the end, I never really know what to expect and every once in a while, I just want to make sure. ^_^
Those looks between Emily and Rain are killing me :). You can feel their love growing with just the way they look at each other. That's so adorably cute !
Maybe if Emily is moving away from you, you should be a better friend to her instead of trying to guilt trip Emily's actual friend.
Seriously, zero sympathy here.
You know, I can understand Debbie's heart-break over her friend leaving.
But all she's DONE is put Emily down and criticize her. Instead of, y'know, actually bringing up these points. Defense mechanism or not, she's basically bullying her. I can't feel sorry for a character like that, no matter the motivations or reasons behind it. Debbie just HASN'T been that much of a likeable character to begin with, so... yeah. Sorry, Debs.
Totally. When something like this happens, you go to the friend in question, and bring up your feelings as respectfully as you can.
chase and debbie are the first ones but i'm betting there are more on the horizon.
"If that was obvious though, just ignore this paragraph."
You said, at the immediate end of the paragraph. I c wut u did ther. :P
Right, but that means it wasn't on his own. And not even Chase got it on his own, he was just making a 'joke'.
