On a lighter note, and more than a little off-topic...
Happy 20th anniversary, Pokemon! :D
I guess I didn't have to draw anything, but Pokemon has given me god knows how many hours of joy and entertainment throughout the years. I've even made friends and connections through it. I play a lot of video games, but this has been one of my go-tos for more than half my life and I never tire of it. I can always go back to pretty much any game in the main series.
In celebration of that, I decided to draw my personal top ten favorites of the 700+ existing creatures. From left to right:
Dragonite, Absol, Lilligant, Milotic, Glaceon, Sylveon, Gothorita, Koffing, Gourgeist, and Gardevoir
Milotic is my absolute favorite though. ^_^
I could probably ramble on for hours as to why I love these specific Pokemon, and listing the couple dozen others I painstakingly left out of this piece for time constraints, but probably no one cares (I guess you can ask if you do care though). XD
Not much else to say except that I'm excited for Pokemon Sun and Moon, and everything that comes afterward.
But what about you folks? What are some of your favorite Pokemon, or games, or types, or whatever?
OMG! I know! I got hooked on Pokemon when my wife had to have a knee replacement several years ago. I borrowed a friend's GBA and Fire Red. Completely hooked now. Have played all but the original colors & metals.
After finishing Omega Ruby (and Alpha Sapphire), I started transferring Pokemon that I'd put into my Pokemon bank to see just how far I was in my Pokedex. After grabbing some others I still had in X & Y ... I am now at 630. I plan to have a complete 'dex this year. (Well ... that was until I just heard this morning of Pokemon Sun and Moon versions coming out this year.)
I might have a complete dex this year at long last too! Moreover, I'm going for a living dex (when you have them all not just registered in the Pokedex, but literally everyone actively on-hand in your PC Boxes). I'm up to 713, I think. And with them making the event legendaries available over the course of this year, I think I should be able to achieve this (although, I may have missed my window with Mew this month, so I'm not really sure what to do about that). ^^;
Good luck to both of us on dexes though! :D
@LittleLynn84: Excellent! Good luck! I don't know if Mew is tradeable over the internet ... I've tried with some of their other giveaways from the past couple of years and it wouldn't let me. But that was on the GTS. It might be different with friend codes? Anyway, my point is that I have 2 Mews (I was able to get 2 cards as I went in to GS with my OR and AS cartridges - I had my X & Y too, but they wouldn't let me get 4 ... sigh).
My I do tend to ramble (I just got off work - graveyard shift).
Now that I've walked clear around the barn ... if you'd like, we could try to trade a Mew to you.
I'm seriously considering the living dex too. I mean once I have all the fully evolved forms, any unevolved or intermediates I should be able to breed for. Shouldn't take too much effort. But the 720 is what I'm aiming for right now. Well, 721 when they release Volcanion.
@LittleLynn84: will you be getting pokemon go when it comes out?
I don't have the most high-tech phone, so that might depend on how demanding the game is. I'm not normally into phone gaming, but I will admit it has me curious. So if I can try it, I will.
@pansexualangel: I'm a little hesitant. I'm waiting to see how much it costs and if there are on-going costs. Pokémon Shuffle was put out as a free game, but buying gems for it so I can compete in the tournaments and beat the tougher Pokémon has cost me a lot of money. :D Plus with the announcement of Sun and Moon, I'll probably just go with those.
.... not that you asked me though I guess. :/
omgomgomg - faints in a pool of blood-
@pansexualangel: y'all ri-...I see you have fainted in a pool of blood. Time to cut you up and eat you over the course of 6 9 months and eventually get caught by the police~
@haxorus29: yeah just give me a moment ..hehe
@LittleLynn84: As long as you have a code for it (which was given out from 1 Feb - 24 Feb), you can claim Mew up until 31 May.
I'm aware the code would still work if I had obtained it. I unfortunately didn't have much time all month to get over to GameStop. I only finally went there on the 19th for the new Fire Emblem, and while I was there, asked about the Mew code. She said they'd been out of them for weeks though. In short, I'm out of luck barring a generous soul with an extra code or something... but I'm not counting on it. ^^;
I'm sure I'll figure something out though (and I'll be sure to go out of my way for the new GameStop exclusive Pokemon). XD
Wonderful...I now know that we share favorite Pokemon. Specifically Glaceon, Gardevoir (My absolute favorite), Lilligant, Sylveon and kinda Milotic. Only kinda because it was a bitch to get in Pokemon Ruby, what with that nonsense about the basic stage being in a few water squares in a single area and needing a specific nature in order to raise a specific stat using Pokeblocks...ah yes, many tears were shed in the months I spent. And then many more were shed when a 6-7 year old wiped my data.
Funny enough, it's actually partially because I worked so hard to get Milotic, that I appreciated it so much. I heard about the way it was caught but had no idea what it actually was, but for some reason, this made me HAVE to know. It took me days, as I remember. But I was rewarded with this strong and beautiful Pokemon that I just immediately loved. It was a hassle for sure, but I feel like it paid off. ^_^
But then, a few years later, I was having a hypothetical "which Pokemon would you be" discussion with a friend. I said Milotic just because I liked it, but asked for a reason, I proceeded to make up this crackpot theory on the spot about how Milotic represented trans people. Even though it's not true because I made it up, this actually sealed my appreciation for it. And now, Milotic is my favorite.
Also, here's my crackpot theory, if you're curious. XD
@LittleLynn84: I like Gardevoir because I wanted a Ralts when I saw (aw hell forgot his name) catch a Ralts. Huh, I just realized most off my favorite things come after being jealous of someone else having one. I mean, for fucks sake the entire reason I started playing Pokemon was because one of my friends had the game and I didn't.
I had Japanese friends and played it long before anyone here new what Pokemon was. Then my friends kids got into it big much later that got me back into it in a English form finally. I used to have to explain this was not a American made game but an old Japanese one they finally got over here with.
@Anna Rei: took em 4 years. video game wise it was pretty young.
@haxorus29: For Japan that is old. I guess it seemed like I played Pokemon green and red so much earlier to me. More like the late 80's but no I read it was the mid 90's. I did to much partying drinking and drugs back then. Time for me is messed up in my head cause of it form all I did back in the 90's. They brought it form Japan with them so I keep on thinking it was much later it came out like most things they had.

Congrats pokemon :3
I missed out on Mew as well... Wet to my game store but they ran out of code on the second day! They told me to be there on the first of March for the next pokémon if I wanted a chance to actually get it. I even contacted some stores in the next state over and they had no codes left. I was so disappointed. Definitely going there first thing in the morning on the day of release for each of the remaining ones! Why did they have to start with Mew? Sniff.
@Avistew: they ran out on the FIRST day for me!
@Avistew: Took them 4 days here. Fortunately, March's release, Celebi, is coming out via Nintendo Network Mystery Gift. You just need an internet connection. Here's the Celebi release page;
[Edit:] I fogot to add that there is a link to instructions on how to download Celebi if you haven't used Mystery Gift before.
Reading all the Pokemon squee here makes me wish I could actually get into video/electronic games. Unfortunately, I barely have enough patience for Windows Solitaire.
I did like the Pokemon TV shows and movies, though. Spent many happy hours watching them with my kids. I felt like, for all the "battling," they had a subtext of caring and appreciation for differences.
I've always been a fan of every form of Ralts. They've all been my favorite since Gen III.
I was never a fan of Pokemon but it did entertain me a lot. I hated the American cut up version of the show made more for kids as we have this misconception all cartoons are only for kids here. Most Anime was made for the more adult like audience or both. You watch the originals the series makes more since. As they cut out things like gay characters and transgender ones that were in it they poked at much of the time. Did the same to Sailor Moon ones to. I really dislike the American remakes aimed only at children and simple minded Americans Idiots.
