The school day comes and goes, and our heroines are back home. As a somewhat minor point, I figure Emily's reading one of their textbooks for a homework assignment (because even if you do get to live with your secret girlfriend, it doesn't mean everything else just goes away). Rain should probably be doing her reading too, but as we know, she's not as studious.
I actually struggled a lot with the dialogue here because I really wanted to address Rain continuing contact with Allison without making her seem untrustworthy. I mean, of COURSE Rain wouldn't cheat, but early drafts of the dialogue here still felt questionable. I don't know why that was so hard to fix though. XD
Rain, all characters and all other aspects of the story are copyright material belonging to me.
As you may probably know by now, I'm saving up for my (hopefully) upcoming SRS date in a few months. If you're able, you can help me out. Buying books, or shirts, or just plain donations are all very helpful right now. Obviously, if you are unable to or don't want to offer anything monetary, that's totally fine and I completely understand. There are other ways you can help. Like voting for Rain on TopWebComics or joining/sharing the Facebook page (or even just telling your friends!) can help spread the word about my work. Thanks for anything you can do; no hard feelings if you can't. ^_^
Awwwwww!! Rain is so adorable! XD
Emily is right. Rain is cute when she freaks out.
@00Stevo: She does it so well.
"You've been nothing but honest with me since we first met."
Well, unless you count not telling her that Rain is trans. Other than that...
Minor quibbles aside - Emily is right - Rain is basically that last person I could imagine cheating on their girlfriend.
Hm... I wonder if Rain remembered to tell Allison that Emily is her secret girlfriend, or if Gavin is going to find out the same way he and Rudy found out that Emily is pregnant.
@Arcanist Lupus: I wouldn't call it dishonest to not tell Emily she's trans. Emily knew Rain is a girl, and that's what's important.
@Arcanist Lupus: The fact that you'd count not telling Emily that she's trans as lying is both troubling and telling. They were just friends until last night (in comic) after all. Until they started a romantic relationship, there was no possible reason for Rain to feel even slightly obligated to share that information with Emily. None whatsoever.
@Hannah: My comment was poorly written. I meant to get across the idea that I agreed with Emily's assessment that Rain has always been honest with her. Obviously I failed.
The fact that Rain's body does not match her actual gender has played a significant part in her life so far. It would certainly be an exaggeration to call her dishonest for keeping this secret, but nonetheless it cuts Emily out of a big part of who Rain is*.
*Just to be extra clear, by "a big part of who Rain is" I'm not referring to her being trans, I'm referring to how her being trans has affected her life.
@Arcanist Lupus: Eh.. I still think that's a bit too far. In my opinion it has nothing to do with being (dis)honest, and everything to do with how much you feel you can trust somebody. After all, not feeling like you can trust someone enough yet to tell them something about yourself that could put you in a potentially dangerous situation isn't being dishonest, it's self preservation. Something that, sadly, needs to be second nature for a lot of trans people.
I understand the point you were trying to make, but conflating the two concepts/issues in any context is just propagating a negative idea that has had very negative consequences on many, many trans people. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to rag on you or anything since even when I'd just read your first post I didn't get the impression that you were being malicious, but it is worth keeping in mind for future reference.
There have got to be plenty of things that Rain hasn't told Emily yet, of varying degrees of importance. This doesn't translate into a gigantic pile of lies, because lying and not providing information are two entirely different things.
Got to love that facial expression in panel 5, made me chuckle.
I can't stand the cute-- cute-- killing-- me--gackglk *falls over*
Okay also I want Rain's hair so much ahhh. Is her hair starting to grow out a bit or am I imagining it? Or are you just drawing it slightly differently? Either way, it's looking really cute xD
(...I just realized I have a bit of a crush on Rain. Shoot.)
@Dark Queen of Nerds: Well it's been less than a week since it was cut so... probably not growing quite yet
@AroAce127: True. Forgot it had only been that long, wow. Well either way, Rain's hair is gorgeous xD
I'm still not sure how I feel about these two emotionally unstable girls in a relationship. Seems like it could end badly.
But gosh dang it! They are too cute for me to be able to say anything about it without feeling bad.
I am soooo glad that Emily is a nice person. Trans people often has the pressure to remain in an abusive relationships because "OMG when will I ever find another person who accepts me as a trans person?" mentality.
It is scary to get out there and do the whole dating/coming out process again with a new person, just to try to have someone to love.
