Welcome back to Monday posts, Rain Beaus! I wanted to make sure I had the chapter cover up today because it's more or less safe to miss (for those of you who haven't gotten the memo that I'm returning to Monday posts). If I had the first page up today and half the readers didn't check in, the second page would probably be confusing. XD So this hopefully offers a little extra leeway so we're all here for next Monday.

All that aside, this is going to [probably] be a shorter than average chapter (like Chapters 18 and 19, for example). Lately, you may have noticed chapters have been running longer. That's mostly because there's just more going on in the story now. And while there's certainly always the possibility that this one could surprise me and break the 20, 30, or 40 page count, as it stands it should be relatively short and self-contained.

Now, Rain's first full day on hormones is here. Emily's first day of no longer hiding her pregnancy is here. Several other characters have their own drama going on. But the face of this chapter is Ana, of all people. That title is mighty interesting too. Any thoughts as to where this might be going?

I can't help but feel with the name of the chapter and Ana being on the cover that she is going to be honest to Rain or the group in general about her past.
Granted it could be anything, I am just seeing the doughnut in the background too much making me think of the focus being it :p

@Asuyuia: You're absolutely right: the "symbol of trust" in the title refers solely to Ana's butt cushion.

It's great having Rain back to three days a week. We're lucky to have her, and it's always great to have more to read.
Thanks for making the comic.

As a side note, I'm thinking that Ana will tell Gavin about why she carries the doughnut and what she was away for.

I bet the title has to do with Ana trusting Gavin

I think Ana is going to reveal her secret to either Rain and/or Gavin, and try to trust them that they can keep her secret.

Just out of curiosity, has Ana always had different colored eyes (blue and green)? Not a particularly unusual trait in real life but looking at other images of her they seem, as best as I can tell, to both be green.

@CatPerson:

Yep! Since the very beginning. This is probably one of the better early close-ups to use as an example, but the difference has always been pretty subtle (in hindsight, I wonder if maybe I should've done something more dramatic).

Cool, and thanks for satisfying the curiosity that is supposed to kill us cats.

And don't bother second guessing yourself ... that way lies madness! ;-)

Ok, so I'm just going to share my theory about Ana now.
We all know she was wrongfully assumed to be male when she was younger, but I don't think she was born in a male body.
I think Ana was born intersex, with both male and female organs. When this happens, it's not uncommon for parents to choose a gender for their child, and for the baby to have surgery so they appear as male or female. I think Ana's parent's wanted her to be male, and that that's what her dad means when he refers to his "error in judgement way back then." http://rainlgbt.smackjeeves.com/comics/1993448/photograph/ Also on that page, he is thinking about how Ana wanted a dress and looking at a picture of Ana in a dress, so we know her parents can't have been too close minded about it, so that's not what her father means.
Also, while there are multiple ways someone could end up with different colored eyes, one of the causes is chimerism, which is when someone has two different sets of DNA. It can result in having both male and female body parts as well as eyes of different colors.

@blueshark:

We can speculate all we want, but everything we've seen so far is also entirely consistent with her not being intersex (is there a word for "not intersex"?)

Parents frequently ignore signs that their child is trans until it kind of hits them in the face, e.g., the child talking about wanting to die (cf. last night's documentary "Gender Revolution.") At which point they might well feel they'd made a mistake up to then. The dress in the picture is presumably the one she insisted she wanted, I don't see her has having worn dresses up to then. She's 18, which is the age that most doctors insist that trans kids wait until for SRS.

It's also possible that she _is_ intersex. If so, Jocelyn might or might not use her as an example of the non-consensual surgeries on intersex infants. Note that Heather has already been revealed to be intersex and may well have had surgeries. (CAIS children often have visibly atypical anatomies. Given her mother's attitude, I'd expect she would have insisted on surgery to hide Heather's "defect.")

So far, it could go either way.

BTW, for some reason, I had the impression that Ana's parents split up over how to handle Ana's being trans, but I don't know if that's just some weird fixation of mine. (Her mother definitely doesn't appear to be in the picture.)

In other news, after my archive binge earlier today I've started to realize I *really* want to need that donut cushion someday...thank you for helping me find an incentive to stop procrastinating on my GRS consultation paperwork. :P

Question: Since the chapter ended, what happened to the Rain Delay? Is that to make up for the ...Rain delay that occurred right about here?
