Maria keeps saying not to worry about it and insisting that it's okay, but...

Why don't they have Rudy take Chanel? It's not like he's taking anybody else.

@Puddle:

Rudy's not a senior. Underclassmen are not allowed to go to the prom (in this school) unless they're a senior student's (hetero) date. It's all discussed here: http://rainlgbt.smackjeeves.com/comics/2354115/the-rules/

So regarding characters of note: Ana, Rudy, Chanel, and Ky are underclassmen (and in Ky's case, attending a different school), and cannot attend this prom unless they're brought by one of the senior students of St. Hallvard.

@LittleLynn84: Isn't there a further complication? Even if some complex maneuvering gets everyone into the prom, will they be able, at a Catholic school, to act like prom dates (dancing with their chosen partners, showing signs of affection, etc., etc.)? Back when I was going to Catholic schools (admittedly in prehistoric times), such things would not have been allowed between two boys or two girls and I don't think Father Quenton has moved with the times. If they can't do that stuff, is going to the prom even worth it?

Maybe pool resources for an alternative prom?

@M: Unfortunately, since Ky isn't a student at St. Hallvard, they can't go by themself. they would have to be invited in (beyond that i think Ky is a junior at their school). :c

Although, i imagine Drew wouldn't mind taking Chanel if Ky could get in without him.

@Zeenaathena @M: It sounds like Maria's planning that Emily will take Rudy and Rain will take boyKy, which means Drew could take Chanel.

BTW I'd love to see the gang (or maybe just Chanel) come up with a gender neutral fancy outfit for Ky/lie that can be matched up with "girlish" or "boyish" accessories depending on how they feel the day of the prom.

The way the US does proms is so strange to me, here in the UK every "senior" (Year 11, so around age 15/16) can go to prom if they buy a ticket, you don't need a date or anything :D Noone from other lower years comes along because it's a party for the kids about to finish High School and it would be strange for them to come, they can go when it's their turn :D

I went with a group of 4 or 5 friends (who all happened to be girls) and we had a blast!

Seniors in Canada are 17/18 years old, in grade 12, and finishing high school, I think it's the same in the US. I don't think at my school you can take anyone from the lower grades, but it's not entirely a party organized by the school so I don't think they could stop you.

yeah some UK high schools go on to year 13 or age 17/18 but that's often a separate college where you do your exams to get in to university (used to be called sixth form college) and people organise their own parties at that point usually.

I was more confused by the "you can only come if you have a date" aspect than the bringing younger kids along part.

I feel sorry for maria and Chanel. Being left out is never fun.

Maybe Maria and Chanel could spend a cozy night at home. Cool/cute outfits, late night snuggling with movies and snacks.
^-^ Spending time with someone you love is always good.

I like to try and find atleast something, no matter how small, that is a positive/silver lining for me to think about, so not to fixate on the depressing parts.

@wolfpurplemoon at some smaller high schools seniors AND juniors can buy tickets and take a date of their choosing. I went to Catholic high school (~400 enrolled) in a small city (~45,000) and that was the case there, I assume to help offset the costs of holding prom and to keep ticket prices affordable (they were already 50 or 60 bucks). Question for everyone- how common are official after-proms? You know... to keep kids from getting drunk/high and having extramarital sex...

@plasticwrap: It's the requiring a date to attend part that confuses me more than which grades are allowed to go, it makes sense in a smaller school to let more people go! But why require everyone to have a date when it's a party for the end of school and they are teenagers!!

@plasticwrap: And regarding after-prom, everyone went their own way for that, and I'm sure most went to parties with alcohol (I know my group of friends did that) even though everyone was only 15/16! (you can buy alcohol at 18 here)

@wolfpurplemoon I'm not sure there's anywhere that requires students eligible to attend prom to actually bring a date. Random reader inform me of some backwards-ass place that does.
Where I went to school, there was no official after-party, if I remember correctly, but the prom I actually went to (for the most affluent suburbian school in my city) had an official after-party, but that only lasted until like 2 or 3 AM, after which I got my premarital nookie, but no alcohol or drugs
