Okay, NOW we're done with Debbie for this chapter (although, there's still plenty of chapter to go). What do you make of this whole exchange though (as in, starting from where their interaction began to now? Has Debbie learned something? Will she finally talk with Emily? Or just stay out of everyone's business? Or is this all just gonna get a lot worse?

And then there's Rain, still steadily growing stronger and bolder as the story goes on. But that was quite the speech, especially considering how much she's struggling to get words out moments ago! Of course she's still upset and probably wants to cry (and can't seem to make eye contact with Debbie right now), but she's also had it. Everyone has their breaking point, and even us shy ones have to put our foot down sometimes.

Not to mention Debbie's behavior might remind Rain of someone else she knows. >_>

Sooooo... what now?

I doubt Debbie will bother Rain after that. It would be great if she could change her attitude, thought, and reflect on her actions

I think rain responded very well ^_^ as for Debbie, judging by her expression I think Rain might have gotten through to her at least a little bit. She does look guilty. But guilt doesn't always translate into remorse, it's a bit of a wildcard. I think it could go either way, either she'll reflect on her actions and try to reconcile with Emily & Rain (or just give them space), or she'll double down on trying to hurt them

Also, call me a sentimental idiot but I really hope Debbie can be redeemed and that she'll apologize like Emily did all that time ago, and that she'll be forgiven :3

As a cis gendered heterosexual male who's both going out of his way to learn more on understanding the sufferings of others (and acknowledging the LGBT to be as much of a civil rights issue as racial matters are) and as a victim of bullying for all his life (quite a bit of it because despite being straight I still trigger people's gay-dar constantly), seeing cute adorable Rain put Debbie in her fucking place is very rewarding.

reply

@Le Fou: First of all, I might make an account just to keep up with any other replies I get, as I find myself both looking to learn and entertained by what I've read so far. I wonder if this will ever end up getting read...

2nd, I know it's gotta be good when people whom have less to deal with try to appreciate the situations of others. ^_^

Hm... Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Questioning, Asexual? I know there are several more terms (several of which got refereshed in my memory via this comic), I usually stick to LGBT because it rolls off the tongue, even though I acknowledge it to be the tip of the spectrum.

I've had some help in my self-improvements. A friend of mine is an activist on these matters herself, and while at first I merely shrugged and rolled with it whenever she got started on such a subject, a few different revelaitons in my life and random learnings provided quite the epiphany and turn-about in my viewpoint.

....other than something Hagrid once used as a greeting in Harry Potter, I don't know what ("Ta"!) means. I assume it's something positive, though!

Choices...choices.

reply

Depending on how things go, i currently can only imagine 2 outcomes, based on what rain said and how I think Debbie may react.

Either option A:
Deebie ignoring it all, becoming completely single-minded and stubborn. Even doing something cruel and drastic that would destroy any chances of making amends. Thinking she was in the right.

OR option B:
Guilt actually hit her, she realizes how heartless and selfish she been and so tries to make amends. Even if it don't work, could say the effort was there.

(if this was anime though, I would say she turn into a villain.)

Excellent way to spell it out for her Rain! Judging by the look on Debbie's face, I'm guessing the short tirade was eye-opening. At least I hope so.

Also, sorry to go a bit off-topic, but I lost some links ... can someone post the URL for the Rain chat boards site?

In Rain's place, the only thing I'd probably do differently is instead of using past tense, use present tense: "If you are really her friends, you should make some effort to show support", and "You're abandoning her"--it'd be slightly less accusatory in my opinion.

Now granted! Rain's not going to be in the most of ideal mindsets right now--it's a miracle she's able to muster a speech of this magnitude as it is! And people are human, not perfect. And maybe being slightly-more-diplomatic isn't as effective; it's possible Debbie NEEDS the harsher version.

So overall I think she did remarkably here. I hope her wording doesn't cause harm, and that she did get through.
