Presumably not longer after the last page, we see Drew leaving Ky's place and bumping into Rain and Emily (closing what might actually be the longest stretch of time Rain's been absent in non-bonus chapter pages). Don't get used to seeing those two much just yet though. That arc, and the face of the chapter cover, is how we're closing this chapter. So where Rain and Emily are coming home from and what's going with them today, we'll hear more about later.

I mean, I could've been anyone bumping into Drew here. But since Rain and Ky live in the same building (Rain and Fara upstairs, and Ky and Heather downstairs, if you forgot), it's not too surprising that Drew would cross paths with them.

This scene was actually added a bit more recently, with everything originally planned to cut off and shift focus to someone else after the last one. But Drew isn't actually seen for the rest of the chapter and I didn't want to leave him off on too sour a note. So this was included as a reminder that he's not a bad guy. Perhaps a bit of a fool sometimes who has a lot of growing to do and really needs to think before he opens his mouth, but he's not a jerk or a bully or anything. I wouldn't even classify him as an antagonist. While he doesn't fully understand what he's done wrong, he recognizes that he's done wrong. And Drew is seen here, making an early redemption attempt, passing on the message that whether he attends prom or not, Ky can still go.

Next week, we will see a scene shift, but not to Rain just yet. As for what will come for Ky and Drew - individually or otherwise - we'll see more on that later.

At least Drew knows that he did wrong. He could get a beer with Rain's brother.

@TranshumanAr:

Probably not the greatest idea since Drew is still underage. And isn't drinking part of what got him into this mess with Ky?

But I understand the sentiment, lol. He could do with a buddy who's messed up like he has and could give him some perspective. Knowing you messed up is a good step in the right direction, and his correction from pronouns to simply Ky's name is indicative that he's not completely clueless.

To note, I do understand the "get a beer" bit is likely metaphorical.

On an entirely different note...why is Drew wearing two short-sleeved T-shirts?

@Unknown: They actually sell t-shirts that are designed like that. Fashion doesn't always make sense.

@Anna Rei: Because people who do the right thing often learned how to do that by doing the wrong thing a few times. Deciding to be accepting and inclusive is different from the process of learning how to be accepting and inclusive.

I'm just thinking back on how I was 9 years ago at his age (and how prone to foot-in-mouth I am now) and how stupid I could be, and... this just gives me all the blue feels. Perhaps it's because I think Ky is intensely cute and perhaps even ideal for someone like me (I'm bi), and I identify with Drew (I'm also cis male) and fantasize being him and root for him that I want him to wise up and go apologize and go to prom with Ky already. What hurts the most, though, is knowing that I would have done exactly what he's doing now. He knows he hurt Ky and he knows he's screwed up his chances with them and he's punishing himself. He probably thinks he doesn't deserve to go now. At least, that's if he were me. And I was very deeply closeted in high school. Kids who grow up Catholic know all about shame, and being someone else's shame, so I think Drew understands that sentiment even if he's not hiding some queer part of him. But I wouldn't be shocked if Drew were secretly bisexual, because I see myself in him, and it was incredibly hard to admit the truth to myself even when I finally did at age 23. Let alone tell anyone else. I mean, with all the stereotypes that go around about bi men, if you're equally or primarily interested in women, why bother with all the trouble of coming out? (Because you're slowly dying inside, that's why.)

Well, from what this comment has shown, it's usually quiet talking, maybe something happened when Rain and Emily where out?

I just hope that Drew can be open about how he feels about Ky. He clearly doesn't care if Ky is in girl mode or boy mode, only that he isn't comfortable being out about his orientation.

I feel like I know a little what drew is going though a little trying to do or say the right thing. The lgbt community can be a little tricky even i have trouble understanding things sometimes and i'm part of it. I don't think he meant to hurt ky in any way I think he was trying to protect them in some why from the kids that aren't as understanding like Rain's group of friends. I think what he said or trying to say just came out wrong.

And what is his orientation? I don't seem to remember him coming out in any way, so at present I just thought he was at least open-minded, but also possibly less-than-100% hetero and he just doesn't know it yet. I think it would be pretty funny if Drew were bi too, but a huge percentage of the straight population are less straight than they know or will admit, so...

Correction: upon rereading, Drew was able to admit some sort of attraction for Ky after meeting them in boymode, so.. it's not an official coming out, but it leans pretty strongly toward bisexual, even if he would only be attracted to femboys.
