In case it isn't clear, the idea behind the last two panels is that Emily and Rain are still talking while the camera keeps its focus on Todd (and Debbie, who in this instance, is just passing by minding her business). I don't even imagine Emily and Rain are looking at Todd; they're just rolling their eyes and keeping going to their next class while talking about this freaking guy. I mean, there was another topic before Todd suddenly popped in, but that's been derailed for now. I guess we'll get back to that later, whatever it was. ;P

As for Todd, I'm not gonna ask again what his deal could be. I don't think the conversation is going to change much at this point (unless you have a new theory; then I'd love to hear it). We just have to see where it's going now. But I do want to stress that this IS all going somewhere. Todd's not just popping in periodically to offer random interludes of discomfort. It's all building to something (for better or worse).

Todd's kidna beginning to fit the profile of a school shooter. Lets hope that doesn't happen.

@Chrissy: You might be on to something what if he is getting issues at home because of his older brother, we do not know what his relationship with Blair is like, or his parents.

@Yukimi: Yeah, maybe his parents want him to go to prom with a girl but he doesn't, and he's doing this so that he can honestly tell them that every girl he asked rejected him.

@Chrissy: I think this is most plausible explain for Todd's behavior. We know that he's been rumored to be "gay" by the guys in his class because he was seen/acknowledged to be crushing on someone who was not heteronormative. He may be overcompensating or trying to convince everyone else, but specifically himself, that he "flies straight." I don't know who he thinks he's fooling, though.

@AnOldWolfNamedSteve: Could be worse still. Imagine if those rumors had gotten to his parents. His parents might be even crazier than the gay siblings'. I'm getting vibes of some sort of parental pressure here anyway.

@Robin: Or DC. Over the years, how many times have we heard of a congressman who is strongly for anti-LGBT legislation getting caught in a, um, compromising position with someone of the same gender... (often significantly younger, and one of their employees)

Todd is becoming a magnet of hate with his homophobia, transphobia and slut shamming. I am adding him to the list of future threats, which includes Chase, Rain's male progenitor, Maria and Rudy's parents, Emily's female progenitor, and whatever Japanese dog that is behind the curtains. Father Quenton is just a lesser annoyance in comparison with the dog of Silent Hill.

I just wanted to say the two last panels were perfectly understandable even before reading your explanation below. You did a great job with it!

I find it sad that many reactions on the last page never eve consider why Todd acts like that. Rarely do human beings act like that or bully people just for the heck of it. Even if that reason is peer pressure by other "friends". The fact that Todd acts like that to litterally every girl in school, should ring alarm bells. Normally people would at least change tact if they realy wanted a date

Not unusual

reply

@Sarah: Growing up here in the buckle of the bible belt I can say Todd's behavior is not unusual. Even a smidgen of a hint of being LGBT puts you on the beatdown list. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. Random people you've never even met may suddenly attack you. And the school administration and the police either didn't see anything or declare it "mutual combat". Yeah, little ol' me at 5'4" and a hundred lbs is gonna attack a dude that is prime redneck beef who is 6'3" and weighs 250-300 lbs. Not a jock either, just a big ol' boy that has worked the hay harvest every year since he was 11. I weighed more than a third less than the bales he was throwing around all summer.

Autism spectrum?

reply

He doesn't quite fit the profile (the insults) but given that he seems clueless and is trying the same very direct tactic on everyone, maybe Todd is on the autism spectrum?????

@Tamara: As somebody on that spectrum myself, I really really doubt that Todd is on there at all. There's not really anything to suggest that he's anything but an asshole, to be honest! A *lot* of people are clueless when it comes to asking others out, otherwise there wouldn't be whole manuals dedicated to the subject. (and plenty of those manuals encourage a direct approach!)
