Before anything else, I want to just say that I am a pacifist and I don't actually condone violence. I want that on the record because I feel like I've seen people forget a lot lately that authors can write about things even if they don't necessarily agree with them. If I were to witness this scene in real life, I'd have liked to see Maria figure out some other solution that helps Chanel but doesn't lead to beating someone up... even if Todd is an ass.

Maria is quick to raise her fist though. Seeing Chanel crying (one of the very most important people in her life), and knowing the person in front of her caused it, probably sped those emotions up a fair bit. And maybe the drama at home is getting to her more than she wants to admit. Plus, it's not like it's the first time Todd's crossed her (as he used to bully and beat up Rudy). While I don't mean to make excuses, I hope this at least clarifies what's bringing her to this point.

But... what now? Does she hit him? Does he fight back? What exactly does Father Quenton and Brother Arthur see? And what will they do?

I'm rather hoping Chanel's short stature will play in her favor and the adults (Quinton mostly, Aurther always seemed reasonable) listen to her. For whatever reasons, some adults seem to like short kids. Had a friend in the 7th grade who was easily the shortest kid in our grade level and the lunch ladies always slipped him an extra snack...

@LittleLynn84:

But sometimes, as in self-defense (or defense of others), it is justified.

Now, it looks like Todd has let Chanel go and that may change things ...

(Nice way to set up the drama!)

Maria's in the right to punch Todd. He refused to let her go. He was physically hurting her and was refusing to stop when told to stop. After a point, sometimes physical violence IS the only solution. If Todd gets only a black eye, he'd be getting less than what he deserves.

I know in the religious school I went to in high school, the head master approached girls hitting guys with far less harshity than if a guy hit a girl (which is wrong in its own right) but I have no idea If either Quenton or Arthur would hold a similar belief, though the fact Maria is openly a lesbian probably won't help her in this particular situation. >_>

Hi there, first things first. Hi to everyone, specially Samara (congrats for such a webcomic, i love it)and i want to thank you for opening my mind to the trans world, it´s not a common thing in spain (as far as I know) and u helped me understand a lot.

Now to the subject @ hand. To begin with I think that both will be in trouble, Todd sure has a reputation and that will work in Maria´s advantage with both Quentin and the other guy (sorry i am lame with names :( ). But still it will carry problems for her at home, bein their parents notified after the conflict is solved, whether she hits him or not. I don´t like violence, but every once in a while the jerks should recieve a punch

Okay first this is an awesome page I love how the story is coming along, but unfortunately I don't see this ending well for Maria due to one of 2 things happening.
1)Chanel hugs her to make her stop, but due to the asshat of a principal being present this will be construed as 'lude homo' behavior and get them in serious trouble.
2) She follows through with the punch and due to the fact that Todd is probably one of those kids who is there because 'his parents donate a lot of money to the school' or even more stupid 'the principal is his relative' ends up in trouble not only because she was fighting, but also because she hit the ass with a get out of jail free card.

Ugh Friday will not come soon enough T-T please be okay Maria you are a main character after all.

Since she's probably already in deep trouble, it's a pity they couldn't have come by about ten or twenty seconds later, AFTER she hit him.

I know this isn't going to end well. Also, I am a pacifist most of the time, but I prefer to punch evil people so they don't mess with the people I care about.

The last thing that school needs is the flood of sexual and physical harassment lawsuits coming out of Todds behavior. Maria wont get to beat him but he will get expelled, and for good reason.

I mean, Arthur so far has been shown to be a pretty decent guy. Hopefully he'll believe Maria.

Quenton on the other hand, he's probably going to just punish all of them.

I have a sinking feeling this is only going to end badly.

Even though Todd is an unforgivable shitstain who, in my opinion, had the punch coming a mile away. What really matters is how it looks from the witness' point of view.

They don't know what lead up to it. And unfortunately for now, I can only predict things are going to go south. Quenton has proven himself to be a real hardass bigot with these anti-lgbt+ rules in place. I can imagine Arthur would try his best to salvage the situation for Maria but unfortunately his boss, Quenton, is a witness too. So i can't imagine there's much he CAN do there to change Quenton's mind on what to do with Maria.

I'm curious to see just how much of a close eye the administration actually kept on Todd. Given that he's been bullying Rudy for being gay and that most of the administration actually looks down on anything not straight or cisgendered, I wouldn't keep my hopes up.

The only way I can see this situation turning around is if all the other girls Todd has tried to "ask to the dance" (I.E. just said "Sup Bitch, come to the dance with me.") all came forward and reported Todd on his douchery. And there should be PLENTY of girls whose rejections Todd has overreacted to. it proooobably won't let Maria go to the dance because she threw a punch at Todd, but it MAYBE just MAYBE get Todd nailed for how he treated the other girls at the school.

Maybe that's something Arthur can do? What? I said there wasn't MUCH he could do, I didn't say he couldn't do ANYTHING.

I haven't really been into the theory game in this webcomic, so I'm not 100% my theories for this comic are accurate.
