So, if you don't remember Rudy and Colette's previous interactions, it's been a little awkward for a while. For starters, Colette literally bumped into Ruby in the ladies' room not long ago. At the time, Ruby was trying not to be spotted and took off with barely a word. Ana caught on to who it was though and suggested that Ruby should apologize. But of course Rudy would approach Colette as Rudy. If you reread the following couple pages from there, we see Colette is surprisingly receptive to all this, but misreads the situation a little, assuming Rudy is actually a trans boy, rather than a boy who was dressing like a girl. Rudy makes the correction, Colette gets embarassed, and that's the last we see of their interactions until they happen to encounter each other in the hall again on this very page.

Whew! Did you get all that? XD

Now, we have Rudy - following a venting session about his long-time bully to Brother Arthur - offering to similarly lend an ear to Colette. What do you suppose they'll discuss? ;)

I want to say Colette is a trans-girl.

but the Whole thing with Rain transitioning is the whole reason why Rudy broke up with her.

So, my take on this is that Colette may be a closeted Trans-BOY.

I could totally see Colette becoming Cole, and it would definitely explain why they were hoping Rudy was trans.

Wait a second. Isn't Rudy the only one of the group (at St. Halvard) that wasn't able to go to prom? What if Colette is a closeted trans man and Rudy is really affirming and so he asks him to prom and either they both show up in tuxes or maybe Ruby in a dress and Colette (or whatever he goes by) in a tux.

I like Col(ette) already and I am liking seeing more of them. Can't wait to see where this goes. *keeping ambiguous about gender until certain any way or another*

If Colette starts asking questions related to being transgender, Rudy can wing it by saying "I have a friend named SNOW, who is in a similar situation, and a friend named... STANLEY... who sometimes is a girl and sometimes is a boy.

Rudy x Cole... I ship it. It already seems like they have some good chemistry and that Cole trusts Rudy quite a bit

i think colette is definitely some sort of lgbtq+, but im not going to rename them as i please. that's not up to me, and to be honest, im not too big a fan of the name cole, haha. it makes me a ten year bit sad that the second colette showed such interest in a hypothetical trans boy, people assumed they are a trans boy.

i do see it, though. the hesitation to go to prom, the lack of excitement about prom dresses, and the quick, defensive yes to aidyn. it's totally possible, but not something im going to assume.

@Guest:

I find you approach refreshing. It seems rude and kinda violating to assume one way or another and just proceed to refer to them as such. I know I certainly wouldn't want people doing it.

Have we ever seen Rudy’s back like that ever before? I don’t really remember. Sorry that’s so random but I wonder the most random things.

I wouldn't word it like that… I think plenty of people here are being considerate. They are simply gushing over a new LGBT+ person to add to the growing family. Speculation is healthy and fine. I agree whole heartedly with you, of course, that assuming anything about this character that we have barely seen isn't a fantastic idea and that doing so could lead to very unhealthy expectations. Furthermore I can't wait to see where Jaclynn takes this character and I love the suspense of it all. I hesitate, however, at claiming anyone who doesn't subscribe to my specific ideals for how a canvass should act about a fictional character in a web comic's comment section is not considerate.

@B37h: of course, not every one is being like that. i just wanted to point out that it's a little unsettling to me that people are referring to them as "cole" when we haven't got any confirmation. i have no issue with speculation, as i said, so have i, but it upsets me when people make assumptions, as if it's set in stone. (not to mention shipping "rudyxcole").

how would you feel if someone pointed at you and said, "omggg another lgbtq+ person!!!!! ahhh!! i bet you're going to start calling yourself _____ because you're transgender. ooh, i bet you're also going to date this guy."

@Guest: While I agree with you that one shouldn’t speculate about (real) people, I see a difference to fictional persons. I don’t really get the shipping hype myself (even if I find the one or other coupling, or most, very cute), but it’s just a part of fandom.

I find cruelty (wishing violence or death) against "bad" characters much more disturbing than gushing about some potential ship, or speculating about some character’s gender or queerness, while I’d strongly discourage such behaviour in real life.

Hmm... I'm going to go down the glass-half-empty road and say that Colette is about to chew Rudy out for using the girls' bathroom. Double or nothing that it involves some variant of the phrase "if you really were trans...."

@Raen: I guess they’re too nice for that. But they might voice a lack of understanding...

Oh, is it rude to "they" someone that clearly presents female? Like, question their gender where there’s nothing to question (because it’s theirs to decide and not mine to question).
Of course, again, it’s only a fictional character. IRL I’d be *very* cautious to keep my uncertainty to myself and maybe a trustworthy friend.

I default to they. If I don't know I will use they/them pronouns until corrected then I will switch. I have not had anybody tell me off for that but then again I am a scary person at first so this may be due to fear rather than a lack of offense

tl;dr: should be fine, take this advice with a grain of salt.
