Guest Rain Delay, by the very talented Maddie AKA GenericBunnyGirl, who's responsible for the webcomic, Least Likely Magical Girl. She's offered to do a short series of strips for me to share with you during my hiatus, and as a fan of her work myself, I'm very excited to see where it goes. I hope you'll all enjoy it too! ^_^

And as a friendly reminder, by "Guest Rain Delay by someone whose name is different from mine", I mean, I'm not drawing these! Some of the comments I'm getting of "Wow, your style has gotten so much better all of a sudden, Jocelyn" are starting to border on hurtful, and I'm worried about coming back after the hiatus and disappointing everyone with my own "apparently comparatively lacking" art. Please try to be mindful of what you're saying before you say it, guys. ^^;

Maddie is extremely talented - I agree - but please go tell her you love her art. I'm sure she'd love to hear from you! And you should all check out her comic while you're at it too:

Don't god mode, Rudy! Nobody likes an omnipotent narrator! Well, the guy from the first movie of George of the Jungle is fine.

George of the Jungle used the narrator correctly and I want more movies with Jeff Goldblum as a doubtful narrator because it would be funny. Yes I know they aren't the same person. :p

I think different art styles fit better with different genres. Your art style is simple but pleasant to look at, and it helps the reader focus on the most important part of your story: conversation and characters. I haven’t read Maddie’s comic, but from the title I imagine there’s a lot of action scenes, and a more complex style would better fit that genre. :)

hey Jocelyn - about you're art style, its what drew me into the comic in the first place - it has a really genuine, homely feel to it and it makes the comic complete - i'm sick of seeing the industrialised, digitalised, companist artwork that alot of webcomics features - Rain is truly my favourite! the only two reasons i'm reading the rain delay is because i'm bored and I like dnd. under normal circumstances, the artwork is too polished and looks like a company made it for an ad or something (what i was tryna stay before) being trans myself, I named myself after YOUR character. I Love your style and your webcomic. please don't quit!

Shame about the misunderstandings. Your style is adorable, engaging and does a great job of conveying emotion. It has also gone through a great deal of genuine artistic improvement since the early pages Rain. Don't let anyone sell your accomplishments short.

That said, I know these comments can feel like literal backhanded compliments. They can also suggest ways to make a good style even better.

Still, try not to take them too much to heart either way. After all, it was your art that made Rain strike a chord with so many people through the years.

Your art is beautiful and matches the purpose and genre of your work perfectly. Maddie's art is beautiful too and matches the purpose and genre of her work perfectly.

It would be distracting if your art was as detailed as hers because you work with slice of life stories. Anything more detailed than what you already do would seem unrealistic and distance us from the characters.

So yeah, don't worry, your art is wonderful. Wonderful in a different way for sure, but no less wonderful than anyone else's :)

I actually prefer your style personally :). The delay art has good colouring style, but with yours to me the characters look older and more like people. They look really really young with the other art style. It's good enough to keep reading, but yeah, like yours better. I guess each person prefers different styles is all.

Ignore the mean beans, Jocelyn! I have always admired your art! I mean, any attempt at a person I've ever created either looks like a lumpy potato, or makes me feel terrible for bringing such a monstrosity into this world! So while it may not seem like much of a compliment, even as someone who adores art and drawing, I can't understand how you can draw all these characters and have them look so awesome, and then ON TOP OF THAT you also can make them look different?!? I'm honestly envious. So while Maddie's art does look cool, I honestly have to say I prefer yours. I'm here mostly for story, but if this was about Mr. Het Straight Dude, I would read cuz I like the art style. So feel good about yourself and your artsyle, and if people are disappointed, well, then, they can go and live their lives without Rain. And what a tender world theirs would be...
