Today, we see Rob, Devon, and Holly interacting. Debbie is also present, but curiously, she doesn't say much of anything. Lots of talk about the "Rain and Chanel getting in together" thing too. Hmm...

As a friendly reminder, Ryan can absolutely be an androgynous name. So it's not out of the realm of possibility for Devon and Holly to find nothing unusual about what they assume to be Rain's "real name". That said, as someone who only learned of the name's gender neutral nature in more recent years (I thought it was a strictly male name for a long time), Rob's reaction isn't implausible either. Different people know things differently, after all.

Admittedly, this page is mostly a little more stage setting for future scenes, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on everything all the same.

I really hope that Debbie doesn't do anything to mess up everybody's night. This is supposed to be a night full of fun times, not drama.

Catch

reply

I am going to say something horrible, but she technically *did* 'catch the gay' by dating Rudy.
Which is not a fishing metaphor.

You want me to blow your mind? In French, "Marie" is epicene! Granted, it is much rarer for men, and generally a second name (my dad's second name, actually, is Marie) or a compound name (like the infamous Jean-Marie Le Pen, founder of the political party Le Front National, which is as racist as the Repu... I meant, Hitler).

It's plausible. We've got things like Dillon/Dylan, Sandy, Alex, etc which have both male and female uses. My full first name is obviously female, but I shorten it so it's in the middle. Personal choice and works for me. Anyway, totally enjoying the weekly fixes of Rain.

I actually had to deal with something similar recently because I can't afford to update my ID/get new one (that stuff is expensive) so mine still has my deadname on it. But thanks to StarTrek Discovery it gave me my best come back to anyone asking about it without actually knowing my name. I just tell them 'my parents are time travellers and they're huge fans of Star Trek Discovery'. Those who don't know the 'lead' is a woman named Michael.

Randy's name is Randall?! Oh my stars!

Also, it is easier to suspect about Rain being lesbian (which she is) than her being trans. On the other hand, this is building up into a dramatic network of causality where the free wills of many people are creating a strange drama that is going to reach an epic climax that either good or bad for the characters. I can't wait!

Ryan or Ryan?

reply

Rain's given name, Ryan, can also be pronounced two ways.....R"eye"an which we normally associate with male and R"ay"an which would be associated more with female.
The second pronunciation could be why Rain is a nickname for our main character. I can understand why someone with a name that gets pronounced incorrectly all the time would want to be called a nickname.

Sorry if this is long winded:
So I’m going through a lot of stuff and I just wanted to say that Rain (both the series and the character) have helped me out a lot, long story short I will be seeing a counsler and hopefully see if I can go on hormones.

Now I’m want to explain a small bit, I am male/female and have been this way I am my entire life, I noticed at age 6 (i’m 30 now)

I hide it my entire life until just well this month, I embraced the female part of me in private but never in public and it tore me up inside because I wasn’t properly being me.

I talk to my mental health doctor (not my therapist) and explained that I want to go on hormones so I get reach the point where I am happy with my body but now I’m torn because I am now feeling like I should fully transition...

I want to be happy in my own body...

Anyway long story short, I am tkaibg the steps to my happiness and Rain has been a great help in that because it was one of the things that made me want to come out about this to my close friends n family, of which a lot are supportive, (heck my mom apprently always knew)

Anyway (again) sorry for the rambling, just wanted ti say thanks for such an amazing webcomic

I keep going back to how irritating Holly is in the last panel... Debbie said an obvious No and she still has the energetic nerve to ignore that and drag her with her... I'm worried that will cause problems in later pages
