I'm not sure what to add here. I'd definitely like to hear your thoughts on Debbie's monologue, though.

I don't understand why Debbie hates Rain, (If one of the pages states why she hates her, I need to find it) But its sweet, years of friendship don't just disappear. So I like how Debbie can remember that, and do something redeeming and not just scheme all the time. Also, Debbie reminds me of Santana and Holly reminds me of Britney. (Glee)

@Solongbird:
The difference with Glee is that none of the three popular girls in Rain are sociopaths. The characters of Glee can do some questionable stuff even when doing the right thing.

@Solongbird: Debbie might hate Rain because she “stole” her best friend. Or did it start even earlier, when Rain was new in their school? I guess I must re-read again...

I think a good part of it is jealousy, One of her best friends who she's known for years suddenly up and disappears to go hangout with this new girl with no explanation. Debbie could easily feel abandoned by Emily and see Rain as the instigator of it. At least that's how I felt when I was in a similar situation as Debbie. It doesn't make it right but, at least for me it's understandable, especially at her age.

Yes mostly because of this monologue, I don't have too much to go off of. Anyway I really like Debbie in this moment because she shows two traits that I find are THE BEST HUMAN TRAITS EVER, those to being honesty and the ability to shove any and all feelings or cares or current relationship away to help someone. The second one personally is something that most people struggle with. But I'm glad Debbie was able to choose to try and stop Emily from making a bad decision. I was going to type up something about how happy I am that Debbie is the one doing this until I realized, she's really the only one who CAN do this, I mean Marina might know something Emily's mother but doubtful, and Holly isn't serious enough to really leave a serious impact.
Oh and Jocelyn thank you! really, I want to thank you for all this amazing story writing and really nice drawings.
Seriously you've been one of the major things that have kept me wanting to be an artist.
Ok I'm done now theirs my wall of text see everyone next week and!

It's normal for people to get jealous when a new person comes in and disrupts an established friendship. Hopefully, Debbie's got this.

@Shimsta :D: We're missing a 'to' there. It says "I didn't expect you be so concerned about me." not "I didn't expect you TO be so concerned about me."

Jealousy indeed I think is part of her hatred for rain, but I think its more complicated than just of the position she had, or even of the friendship lost.

I think what really gets to her (and i forget if this has been adressed in comic or just my head) is that emily has been able to 'let go' and truly be herself with Rain and the crew, which must feel like not jsut a loss, but a rejection of their previous friendship as something fake in which emily could not feel comfortable. This would hurt Debbie especially deeply if she genuinely cared for Emily, which is what I think we are seeing proof of in these few panels, she knows her, cares about her and is willing to put aside her own feelings for her safety. top notch friend material..i hope?

absolutely agreed

reply

@TiroFinale: totally right, I seriously doubt she knows the specifics, but I think she can feel it none the less. after all she knows about how horribly her mom treats her, so she knows that before her behaviour was mostly a front! she can see the change in her behaviour and happiness without a doubt!

Hi, Author, I don't remember your name, sorry! I'm honestly, (honestly!) trying to be respectful in this comment. Just not good at it. I used to really agree with all that modern day stuff about LGBTQ+ and such. I used to read this webcomic. I thought of you when I heard this: https://www.theblaze.com/news/jamie-shupe-non-binary-sham
To conclude, I stopped believing all that and stopped reading this webcomic out of some deep personal stuff I won't get into terribly much. I simply cannot agree with what you believe.
Nevertheless! You strike me as a very nice person. Your artwork is visually very cute. No experience of yours can be reduced to a single news article. Actually, no human experience can be reduced to any moment. Life is complicated, the world is broken, and we're all unknowingly journeying towards some ultimate reality. I hope that this article brings you further on your journey.
...ramblers gonna ramble...

@Domine, non nisi Te: just gonna say, that was just one guy, he can't really represent the whole LGBTQ+ community

that probably won't change your opinion and that's fine, but I just wanted to kinda get that out there. in these modern times, all of us can get kind of obsessed with a "single story", as wonderfully stated by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in her Ted Talk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9Ihs241zeg if you want the ted talk btw

also im kinda curious about why you came back to this comic if you hate (sorry, not the right word im looking for) the LGBTQ+ community

@RandomEgg:
Yeah I know no guy and no story is indicative of any group as a whole. Not all Not all women who wear makeup are Kim Kardashian; not all Germans are Adolf Hitler. I'm sure there's also been some very conservative people who came over to the LGBTQ side.

I will listen to that TED talk.

As for my reasons... It's probably some selfish/arrogant/prideful idea that I can somehow change the world by posting an article on a smackjeeves comic. Mostly that. So, in answer to your question, I came back to this comic purely to share that article and out of pride. I should probably work on that. Thanks for pointing it out.
