I hope this page's title isn't too much of a troll move (it really is just because I couldn't think of what else to call this one). However, it does me of way back in the beginning of Rain (circa year 1 and maybe year 2), when I had a lot of readers asking when the magical transformation sequences would happen. While gender bender stories can be sort of a guilty pleasure of mine, that was just never what this story was. It makes me wonder how many people started reading this specifically looking for that kind of magic poofing, and are still reading today despite the lack of aforementioned poofing. If so, thank you for sticking with me. ^_^

Er-hem. Anyway, that was a random tangent. Let's get back on topic!

While Colette is watching Ruby and Ky from a distance, we see Devon talking to Emily near him about the clothing swap. For the record, Colette doesn't really know these people. He probably shares some classes with them, but he's never spoken to them. And while it's unclear how much he may be actually hearing (over the murmur of his classmates and probably some terrible pop music playing on the prom floor), his attention is clearly drawn to them. It's safe to say he may have at least caught key phrases/words like "turned into a girl" or "Rudy".

So, while Colette tries to listen, Gavin - who is also present and just killing time until Ana gets back from wherever she is - feels that stare. He turns and looks, but Colette has already turned away. Hmm... ;P

i hope Collette can still enjoy himself tonight and not take the emotional brunt of people being transphobic about Rudy and Ky

@Guest:

Could be getting ahead of myself since it's only this page thud far, but Devon seems more surprised that Emily doesn't care than about the clothes swap itself. So I'm hoping this to mean he doesn't really see a big problem. :)

Hoping. But we'll see.

Totally not

"his attention is clearly drawn to them"
> How can you say that? Colette is CLEARLY totally not listening. Panel 4 is definitive evidence.

Devon's question in panel 5 was a bit uncalled for. I don't see the connection with the rest of the conversation. I'd like to point out Gavin's worried reaction though.

@Belgarel:

To clarify, the connection of Devon's panel 5 question to the rest of the conversation, is Emily saying she's not dating Rudy. So his line of thought is "if you're not dating him, who are you dating?"

It's still not really his business, but that's how he got there. :)

Emily: "Fine, I will give you a hint: they are a person."

I found this looking for some magical gender bender stuff but this is a very well thought out story (even if you say it’s not) I love this story. Also how’s life going I know transition is difficult we haven’t had a update in a while or a rain delay.

(Raises hand) Me! That's how I found this webcomic many years ago, looking for amazing transgender transformations. Instead I found this entertaining thought-provoking visually stimulating funny way of discussing not only transgender, but all kinds of different sexualities. It has become a reference source I can easily point to when I meet people who are confused about the differences between all the different flavors between cis male and cis female. (I would thank you each time it comes up, but then all my posts would just be me saying "Thank you" all the time! :-)

Read through the entire comic over the last week and I just caught up. It really feels like I read 8-9 years of story, mostly because I read all the author comments - it really felt like a journey through time.

The characters in this are phenomenal. The plot is consistently engaging, and the subject matter is of course a great appeal as well. I really love this comic. Congratulations on making it this far, and here's to more to come :D

@Belgarel - my read is that Devon is at least tangentially aware of Emily's dating history (seven guys between Maria and Rain), and I suspect said question is in reference to that. I mean, Lynn summed up the intention (and, as the author, she would know best), but that was my read before reading the comments.

Out of curiosity, anyone else getting the vibe that Colette's gonna kiss "Ruby"? It would complete the hat trick of Rudy's crap coming back to bite him, and I doubt we've seen all of the night's drama yet.

My thoughts on the Colette front was that he's been listening not just for "turned into a girl" but also "date."

Like, sure Rudy put 0 effort into making his homosexuality a secret, but his dating Rain wasn't a secret either. Thing was it was put out there that he liked her as an "exception" to cover up Rain's trans status.

So, I think, in Colette's mind: "If Rudy can like girl's as an exception, does that mean Emily could be an exception too? I mean, he DID take her here as a date." and generally overthinking it.

In other words, I think Colette's got a crush on Rudy (Shippers rejoice!) Which works well since Rudy is into boys and Colette's been planning to transition anyway.

Anyone else thinking the same thing?

@Climaxstriker & @He Who Abides: I don’t support the Colette x Ruby/Rudy ship. While I wouldn’t be against it, I just don’t believe Colette is thinking about dating anyone while still figuring out himself.

My impression is he’s interested in this conversation and the whole suspicious activity of our gang to learn whom to trust or even come out to first, and to watch how schoolmates and teachers will handle the situation, if he can dare to come out publicly.

@someone_else: I'm not shipping them. I just think it'd be funny to see the Halloween party incident be reversed on Rudy, same as the unexpected headbutt (from Chapter 1) and "Dude, she's a lesbian".
