I know Rain's response may come off as a surprise to some of you, but really, she's been getting bolder like this for a long time. Still shy, and easy to fluster, but she seems able to hold her own a bit better now. After things like coming out to Ana unprompted, or offering to take Chanel to prom despite the potential risks, talking to Devon about her name in a way that's as close to truth as she can get without outing herself is really just par for the course. It's a surprising move when compared to the very early chapters, but again, Rain's grown a lot. I mean, she hasn't even cried in a while (much less right now). I'm so proud of her. ^_^

As for Devon, it seems it was just a matter of curiosity for him. He's related to a girl named Ryan himself, so he took interest in Rain's name situation. Less "what is she hiding?", and more "oh, you too?". As has been addressed a number of times throughout this chapter, Ryan is a gender neutral name. And while I didn't know that when I chose that as Rain's deadname, there is a lot to be said about perception. Rain clearly sees it as a boy's name having grown up with it and being misgendered alongside it, but Devon now knows at least two girls with the name, and might see it the other way. In other words, he never had any reason to distrust Rain after all.

Devon has never really been a major player in the story or anything, but I feel like he's generally been a pretty standup guy. I was happy to see a lot of comments on the last page seeming optimistic about what/why he was asking. ^_^

That went better than expected. Rain and her friends may need to take a rest after a long night of drama.

I want to say that shouldn't have worked, but at the same time I've done that and had it work flawlessly, so I give up. Why is that the one thing cis people believe.

Hmm. I like this, though it means that the drama has yet to continue. That said, Devon's not someone I was worried about in terms of reacting to Rain's past; I always got the vibe that he would be cool.
